I've just recently started wearing braces and it's been a real pleasure. No more cinching up the belt to an uncomfortable degree to keep the pants from sagging down (which they do anyway). No constant waistband adjustments - everything fits and hangs a little better, and you stay a little more...
OK, here's a somewhat odd sweater, but it's been sitting in the back of my mind since I saw it (plus it's from a lounge sponsor):

The color, trim and long cut are appealing, although I'm not wild about the "P" on the chest.
I always heard: "pleated pants get cuffs, flat-front pants do not", but I don't know the reliability of this remark.
I have everything cuffed except flat-front hiking pants. All my other pants are pleated, so have cuffs.
I don't wear khakis any more, but when I did they were pleated and cuffed...
Alright, I'm thinking the 'modern crown vs. classic shape' issue has just about been beaten to death.
I'm more interested in the hat itself at this point - it appears that most hats are coming in with a brim larger than 2-1/2".
Also, I'd like to know about the felt quality - is it Sovereign or...
Thanks, that's interesting about the liners - my two Royal grade hats have the same white liner as the new Strat, my Sovereigns have black liners.
As I understand it, the modern Open Road is Sovereign too, so I guess sometimes the white liner is used in them as well. I think I read above that...
Well, go figure - my apologies. I had no idea that hat was still offered, and that's a good price. I imagine the felt is a lower grade than the current Strat offering, but who knows? LL Bean has some clout, so maybe they are able to offer it at a discount. Is the felt grade mentioned anywhere on...
I have to agree - it was clear to me from the ad that the hat is a profile 10, which is to say that it has the same crown as: Chatham, Downs, Ashland, Hampton, new Whippet, Moose River, Bear Creek, etc. I never concluded that a replica of a vintage lid was to be offered.
This issue of the hat...
I think Edward is correct about the metal buttons KPreed mentioned. I would be fine installing these on chinos or hiking trousers:

BTW, I have found a good source for plastic suspender buttons in multiple colors, by the dozen or the...
It seems to me Hatco could have used the blocks for the Nostalgia rather than the current Chatham/Profile 10 if they wanted to get close to the original Stratoliner without a lot of development work. But I guess the meager sales of the Nostalgia probably wouldn't be enough to persuade them that...
Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. It's useful, as the trousers I've been wearing with braces are comfortable, but the factory button placement is clearly incorrect. On both pair of J. Peterman pants I have, the front-most button is inside the pleat on one, outside the pleat on the other. The...
Another good example is the Mini Cooper - a very good modern reinterpretation of a classic. If I wanted a vintage Mini (or Strat) I would just wait until a good one showed up on the vintage market. I don't have a problem buying a modern version of a classic (I have a new Mini), but the...
I recently bought a couple pair of trousers from J. Peterman that have buttons and am really liking wearing suspenders. I'm looking to add buttons to perhaps a half dozen more of my pants and want to do it right, as I plan to buy a couple or three pair of Albert Thurston braces.
I've done a...
Amen to that. You shouldn't have to pay a penny for that hat. If they're paying attention, the Fedora Store should refund your entire purchase price including shipping and pay for the return shipping as well.
I had a somewhat similar experience with an old stock hat that was shipped with a wonky sweatband. The band was stitched way out of level and managed to put creases in the felt, and reduce the hat size. The store as much as admitted that they just take the hat box in one door from the factory...
Looks good to me. I'd love to see a straight side view to see how much swoop there is in the brim when snapped.
I assume it's silver belly, which looks pretty tan. Marcoshark, does it seem tan in person, or is that just the photos?
Depp's hat appears to have a 4" or 4-1/4" crown which makes me think of a Dressage hat (except for the ribbon treatment, of course), for example this one from Hornets Hats:

Not vintage, of course, and the flare isn't as pronounced, but...
