Seems like a reasonable sentiment, until you have an idiot charging down the sidewalk on a Segway, scattering pedestrians in his wake - they are not small. My wife and I had to detour into the street in D.C. to get away from Segway tour groups that regularly stop en masse on the sidewalk to talk...
Searching for that elusive great white, eh? Be careful what you wish for, as we know what happened to Ahab when he finally caught up with his.
Seriously though, I came to a somewhat similar decision a while back (on a more modest scale than you), and have one more hat that I think would round...
I agree with Tenorclef, I think Harris Tweed would not be a comfortable lining. I was looking through the tweed selection, and noticed they have a wool/silk tweed that is lighter and probably less scratchy:

I think the beige or pink would...
Nobody has specifically mentioned seersucker, which is an option. Right now there is a ridiculously good deal ($64) on 2B seersuckers suits at Jos. A Bank:

The suit looks quite nice - I think the brown fedora looks good, I would definitely go with brown over black.
I'm curious if you measured yourself or if you were able to be measured in person by the Harris Tweed Shop.
The plan was to wear it with dark brown, navy or charcoal trousers. But the cut of the jacket didn't suit me, so I didn't buy it.
I also had a concern that it might, in fact, look like a blanket, rather than cool and retro, LOL.
Having spent the last couple of months looking at tweed sport jackets, I'll say that $246 for a Harris Tweed is a pretty good deal, even adding in shipping. The few I've seen in stores in NYC were in the range of $450-$850. However, if you are a standard size (say 38R-42R), you will probably...
If a 3-button looks that bad with the top button done up, that doesn't mean it's a general sartorial error, it means the suit jacket doesn't fit correctly. Or it's one of those jackets designed to be "three-button rolling to two" as mentioned by Torpedo above. I was in J. Press a couple of weeks...
That's weird, I could swear I responded to this thread a while back --- maybe I forgot to hit return or something. Thanks for the responses above.
Anyway, I talked to J. Peterman, and the sizing of this jacket is the same as the Herringbone tweed suit coat I had to return. A nice product, but...
Does anyone know if this will remain a Fedora Store exclusive, or will it be generally available at some point?
Just curious really - if I buy one, I would probably opt to get it from the Fedora Store as an acknowledgement of their effort to get the hat produced.
You may have already made your choice - if not, you might consider this herringbone overcoat from J. Peterman:

The fabric should be good - the Donegal fabric on the tweed suit is nice and heavy, and with the 16% discount from the...
I suppose I agree in principle - but a direct comparison of one hat model that is common to the two:
Borsalino Film: Bencraft $230, JJ Hats $350
Borsalino Como: same prices
Plus, Bencraft is a lounge advertiser and occasional forum contributor. I believe as the largest retailer of Borsalino in...
If you can get to Bencraft in Williamsburg (near Peter Lugar), it's worth a visit. If not, it's worth a call - they always have stock on hand that is not listed on the website. JJ Hats also has Borsalino, but not as many models (and they cost more).
