I picked up a cheap mesh crown, solid fabric top, fedora style with a fairly large brim at Tractor Supply for something like 12-15 dollars for yard work. Mesh is a very open nylon or some other synthetic that lets air flow very well, so it seems as though each movement of my head creats a breeze.
That is exactly the day I prefer to wear leather soled shoes. If I wear rubber soled Rockports and walk onto the polished floors in our hospital, it's slip and slide until the soles dry. Leather seems to give a much better grip , eliminating the slipping!
I ordered a Panama from PanamaBob last winter and it's nice. Had I known that Art does Panama's also I would have ordered from him for a better fit.
Of course hindsight is always 20/20, but there is the next time.

I like my straws but got an Akruba (sp) Territory because of large brim and large vent grommets. I'll have to wait and see how well it works in hot weather. For a lot of yard work I wear a surplus pith helmet that has the suspension system to hold everything but the sweatband away from your head.

All I ever new was AFR35-10. As an active duty officer for 10 years, then reserve for another 7 with a long break, I hated to see the demise of the 1505 uniform.
Back in late 70's we started having problems with some of the airmen, I was in medics, trying to get away with improper headgear...
I just received an Akubra Territory (a large brimmed hat for summer) in a size 58. It fits and feels about like my Stetson in7 1/4 LO., that is to say it feels good.
