Looking at the Hornets Hats detail photos more closely I tend to agree (they should really provide better product photos, actually all vendors should). Although we should point out that the Bailey Gangster has more of a center dent crown, rather than a teardrop. In any case, it does appear to...
Great find
That's a great gift. On the off chance I might find something, I typed the title into the used/out of print searcher at Barnes and Noble online. Lo and behold, the title was reproduced as a Dover paperback in 2008! It's in stock at $16.95 direct from Dover, or there were many used...
I looked at the Bailey Gangster at VHS and the Christy's at Hornets Hats. To my eye, the Christy's that comes closest is the Knightsbridge - it also has a 2-1/2" brim and wide-ish 1-1/2" ribbon, like the Bailey. There's no need to have an Adventurer brim cut down, it would wind up looking just...
That's a good point - my Joe Fedora came with instruction on how to roll it, and a warning not to leave it in the rear window of a car on a sunny day. Of course, I wouldn't do that with a straw or a felt for that matter.
I have two polypro hats (different maker) and water has no effect - I wear them in the rain with no problem - they both have coolmax fabric sweats. The Capricorn has a leather sweat which I assume can shrink, but I don't believe the crown will have any reason to taper if it gets wet. My gray...
Cromulent
To me, the various hat-shaping terms have distinct meanings: Block, meaning to shape the hat on an actual block; Crease, implies folding to me, which makes sense on a cattleman's crease, etc. I always imagined Bash refers to casual reshaping by hand to refine the shape, including...
$70! That must have been quite a while ago, my friend, a Chatham goes for almost twice that nowadays.
To the OP, Village Hat Shop is in CA somewhere, maybe within range and you could try on a lot of hats. I started with a Stetson - they're nice hats. Akubra are a great value the only problem...
Nice article
Interesting about the orange bikes in NYC, wonder if I'll ever see one. Thanks to Robert Moses, the bridges that lead from my home to my job actually do not have bicycle lanes (the Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges) - quite the legacy. Reading the comments to the article led me to...
Considering
Considering you didn't break his nose, I think you showed fine restraint. In NYC, 'He grabbed my hat' is on the list of acceptable explanations for justifiable homocide - it comes right after 'He wouldn't shut up about my mother' and just before 'He looked at me wrong'...
OK...
Riding hat?
When I saw this post, the first thing I thought was that it looks like a woman's riding hat, especially after seeing the liner:
The cord at the top of the liner on riding hats can be tightened to cinch up the lining, creating a suspension system like the inside of a hardhat...
Hmmm, your comment is interesting NB, as I am actually considering having a bound edge added to my Chatham. The brim has become somewhat rippled with age and I don't have a flange to iron it properly. An under- or over-welt sounds cool also, but I'm not sure how much of the brim that would...
Here it is
Here's the revived Whippet at the Stetson site - not sure who has it - searching Stetson Whippet just gives a truckload of vintage links. I know Bencraft will get it but it's not listed on their site yet - I think they were planning for the fall. The Roadmaster shown here looks...
This reminds me that I forgot to post the latest Noggintops codes, good until the end of the week:
We do have some coupons to offer to you also. For orders of $65.00 or more enter the code SAVE$10 and for orders of $85.00 or more the code is SAVE$15 and for orders of $105.00 or more enter...
I don't own a ball cap, so when I go to games it is usually a polypro straw - much cooler than the Milan. If it is was a cool night game I would certainly wear a felt fedora.
Sounds good - what color are you taking? Also, Hornets will change ribbon size, add a brim binding, etc. FYI my order took 16 days to arrive, but Hornets mailed it after only 6 days and it lagged in the shipping. You may get yours faster.
Yes, Hornethats is the place to pick up Christy's. My Marlborough was $94 shipped. The Foldaway looks surprisingly similar to the Roller you linked to:

BTW, if you order an Akubra from EA, you can specify a cloth sweatband in the hat...
Good point - I have a sport jacket and a HF suit jacket that need their vents closed up, but I haven't gotten around to having them altered yet. They're out of my mind lately as I've more or less stopped wearing either.
