Polypro straw option
Hey Gusman, if you're looking for an all-weather straw option, earlier I posted about this hat which is on sale, a polypro Joe Fedora:
This is my summer outdoor hat for hiking and kayaking, it looks very much like straw but is cooler and impervious to water. It would be...
Yep, but just once with scissors ;)
Seriously, though, I've left my chin strap on for use boating, but continually consider cutting it off and re-wrapping around the crown trolley-style, but haven't done it yet.
I almost never use the strap - the cam buckle on the nylon hatband can be...
I have been harping on how great a hot/wet weather hat this is, and it's on sale for 2 days until Wed. Aug 5th at midnight - marked down from $69 to $38.40! I just ordered one for a friend who had us up for the weekend and was wearing a truly disreputable ball cap - he will look great on his...
Looks good
I like the mink color of the Benchley shown with the ribbon color - looks good.
It reminds me of the Brewster, which I keep going back to look at:

although I'm sure the felt on the Benchley is much nicer.
Sorry, cuz, there hain't no boaters in that-there Rain-waar, jus' regular bound-brim straws. I think a boater and your custom red seersucker will look great together...
I agree that it's good to support NA Akubra dealers - I bought my first (a Sydney) from Noggintops. Most NA dealers offer only bush hats. To get a Capricorn and a Stylemaster (as I did later) there was no option but ordering from Aus. The most frequently discussed Akubra must be the Campdraft...
Your outfit sounds just right to me. You might wind up leaving the vest behind at the last minute if it is anywhere near as warm and muggy as it has been in the city for the last month (unless the heat doesn't bother you, of course). I would not wear a tuxedo unless it was opening night of an...
If you're anywhere near the east side of PA, I suggest Syms - they cover all sizes and do in-store tailoring, the twice-yearly sale runs July 5-12. www.syms.com
Wow, that's some stingy brim, pretty asymmetrical too, to my eye ;)
Miller Hats has a selection of very stingy brims - maybe you can find something close to your baby here:

The Fraser, Northview and Cortland all have a 1-1/2" brim...
Grommet heaven
All the grommets that's fit to mount! You got your brass, your aluminum, your type 305 stainless steel, your Mil-Spec grommets, not to mention the punches and dies, yessir, it's all right here:

The Joe Fedora is a great hat - I'm wearing mine today. It is nearly indestructible and looks passably like Milan straw, plus it's very cool and sheds water. BTW I got road tar on mine last summer and it came right out with a toothbrush and dish soap. I also accidentally left it on the back seat...
Just for the record, my Joe Fedora is made by San Francisco Hat Co., sold by Noggintops - it's the same hat as the Orvis foldaway fedora.
The Delta and the Joe weigh about the same, the Joe might be a little lighter. The Delta has a more open weave and so is a bit cooler. On the downside, it...
On the less expensive side, there's the Stetson Retro, which people seem to like (doesn't come big enough for me though, so I don't have personal experience). Multiple vendors sell it for around 45-50 bucks.
Don't know if it's actually a Stetson or not, but Miller Hats has their very nifty looking LBJ straw in Milan:

Joe Fedora
I love my Joe Fedora, a very cool polypro hat, nearly indestructible. On vacation earlier this month, a couple of times people saw me wearing it with a green jacket and assumed I was Park Service Police:
Photo from noggintops website - the brim will snap down in the front as well.
