Akubra Sydney on sale
From the latest Noggintops flyer (www.noggintops.com)
The price for the Sydney comes out to $95
We do want to offer some hats on sale also. The Akubra Sydney is on sale for $110.00 which is $20.00 off. The Scala Crushable Outback is on sale for $38.00. The Franz...
Thinking back, I remember doing a lot of blotting with paper towels also, so maybe the soaking plus neurotic blotting is what got it clean. I can't remember if the white lining was stained or not, so I don't know if anything got through the felt. But a lining is not so important really....
Years ago I was on Amtrak cross-county. I was snoozing with my hat (NOS Cavanagh in 7-3/4) on the seat next to me. I woke to find that a fellow passenger's big Thermos (old style with a cork) had leaked from the overhead luggage rack onto my hat - the teardrop and the brim were fully filled with...
Here's a couple more of the comparison photos - the exposures aren't correct, but they show the shapes OK. With the hats in front of me, I'd say the SM has a bit more taper (maybe an 1/8" on each side). The difference is due to the slightly narrower teardrop that is blocked in its crown. I guess...
Here's some pics of my Acorn Stylemaster with a gray Capricorn (click the thumbnails) - sorry no noggin shots. If you're going to the trouble of ordering one, consider a Capricorn while you're at it, they're inexpensive and just about the same dimension as the Stylemaster. Mine gets a lot of...
Interesting story about the roots of Felt Hat Day, contributed by Marvelgoose on another thread:
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?p=864011#post864011
Good question - I found these two sites that state that the day is the 15th of September, regardless of the day of the week. They hardly seem authoritative, and neither knows the origin - it would be interesting to know which manufacturer manufactured this 'holiday' to spur fall sales...
So now that you have it and are a bona-fide swain, how do you like the hat? Per your earlier question, how is the felt on the stiffness scale, construction details, etc.?
I wear all my Stetsons in the rain (not at the same time) and have never had a problem. There've been a few anecdotes about bleeding Stetsons repeated over and over, making it seem like a worse problem than it is, in my opinion.
Stylemaster comparison
I bought a Stylemaster along with my Capricorn last spring - I think they look very similar - all the main dimensions are within 1/8". The teardrop is slightly wider on the Capricorn, so the sides look a little straighter vs. the slight taper of the Stylemaster.

To answer the original question, you can buy Scout hat products at Manhattan Wardrobe Supply:
http://www.wardrobesupplies.com/store/m2_mjsupp.html
It's on West 29th Street. I had a lot of fun browsing around this theatrical supply house for an hour or so. They have low prices on hat...
Let's say potato, although I emphasize that this implies nothing about your head or mine [bad]
So C-J, as I remember you kayak on occasion, the clock is ticking for a low, low price on high-style, water wear.....
I agree a black homburg is the way to go.
Sterling Leather has the Stetson Homburg which has a nice appearance:

Miller Hats has the Stetson, but calls it the 'Corleone' (yeesh)...
Hope you like it as much as I do. BTW, I just washed mine last night - put it in a basin of warm water with dish soap and scrubbed it with a vegetable brush. A quick rinse and it dried in an hour or so, now it looks brand new....
