Hey Bart - how many buttons are there on the front? I can't tell from the catalog photo. I understand the complaints about not being assembled in the US, although the fabric is woven here, so that's something. I notice no one seems to complain about their Akubra being made overseas ;)
Have we established that this stuff is NOT made in the US? Or is this just supposition? EDIT - oops, I see it does say 'Imported of our own USA fabric'. Geez, that's annoying.
Regardless of which jacket the 'Ike' is actually emulating, I think it's a nice looking jacket. Although I'll grant...
I saw these two on the Pendleton site:
They've apparently revived an old design of theirs for a wool Ike jacket:

A little pricey, but it looks pretty nice.
Also, a belt-back...
I used to wear something like this - a zip front cardigan - as a leather jacket liner. This is a nice Pendleton on sale - they have quite a bit that looks good, including a fleece lined vest. Great stuff...
I surveyed a building built in 1904 that had the names of the steel riggers chalked on the main structural beam - still perfectly legible in 2001. I'm just glad there was no rust, so I didn't have to call for the beam to be stripped and repainted. I think you should add your name, and leave some...
I think that's just about the perfect definition of 'owning it'. You did it without thinking because it looked and felt normal and appropriate. I do the raincoat and fedora pairing occasionally - but it's a fairly unobtrusive dark taupe raincoat - no extraneous flaps, buckles, epaulets, etc. and...
Yes, the Stylemaster is still available. It's a nice lid, but unlike you, I can't seem to sport the 'high' crown, and the brim's a little wide for me too - go figure. I'll send you a PM directly - check your inbox.
Well I am selling Stylemaster in Acorn Fawn in size 62 - it's dropped to page 2 of the classifieds. You could put a thin ribbon on it, but maybe it's too far away from what you seek.
Good thread - I saw them this morning as well. Al had on a sage green number over a camel coat. Matt's was a dark plaid stingy thing which looked quite good with his trim 60s-style short overcoat. They may be kind of annoying sometimes, but they're doing the hat thing well.
Waits and Cohen...
That was going to be my suggestion reading the thread - I'm actually having a hard time telling any difference between the Whippet and Hampton. Both have 48mm brims and fairly wide ribbons, but come in different colors.
As far as Stetsons go, I have 4 and they are good hats. If you like a 2"...
Arghhh - that's going to be a hell of a road trip - let's see, how many discount hats do you have to buy to offset the cost of gas from NYC to Garland, let's see that's about.... oh Never Mind....
I have two Stetson Ashland - they are exactly the same lid with an underwelt brim. They have served me well so far with no problems (about 1 year for 1, 2 years for the other). There may be a tendency for the raw brim on the Downs to ripple after it gets wet - my raw edge Chatham did that...
Ah, I see and I think you're correct - however, I am a melon-head, size 7-3/4. Vintage is great - but I've found only 1 in 30+ years - a beautiful NOS Cavanagh. If that hat was available today, it would probably cost $300 (not the $0.75 I paid).
But the real point is I don't wear hats to keep...
Coming from someone with a size 7 head, I find this comment ridiculous. Please don't call me melon head unless you'd like to be called something derogatory as well, OK?
I find this remark quite condescending. You don't speak for the forum as a whole any more than I do, and therefore have no...
Geez, Garrett, you give the exact same response to every single thread.
Do you really think all vintage hats are better than all modern hats?
How do you expect hat shops to survive in this world if everyone follows your advice and buys strictly vintage? Are you saying we should be putting...
