Well, I bought my Caribou Ashland from them first, received a poor quality hat, and had some trouble about the return. In the end, they did refund my money and shipping; I had to pay shipping for the return. There was no chance for an exchange (which we both would have preferred) because it was...
Bencraft also sells the Stetson Ashland, a tear drop crown with a 2-1/4" underwelt brim. I have it in dark brown and caribou and it's a nice hat, Royal quality felt. I find the welted brim is nice to maintain the shape of the brim (I also find it makes the hat easier to hold in your fingertips...
It's customary to include the hat size in a classified listing, otherwise you're just being a terrible tease...
BTW, if the circumference is 22", then it's a size 7, not 7-1/8 (22/Pi = 7.00)
Bencraft is a Lounge sponsor - I would suggest emailing them directly, or giving them a phone call - they should be able to steer you properly in terms of sizing and answer other questions you might have. I believe you need 15 posts to use the PM feature. When you get there, you should be able...
The Stylemaster is truly a classic shape - the center dent on the Margate is as well, it's really the ribbon treatment that makes it look more modern. FWIW, the felt on the Margate is probably much nicer (e.g. thicker, softer, more pliable) than the Stylemaster. Akubra felts are thinner and tend...
I'll echo what Avedwards said above. I wear 7-3/4, but am not nearly as tall as you (5'9") - I find 2-3/8" is about the biggest brim I can wear well. I look best in the Stetson 4" tall teardrop, with either 2-1/4 or 2-3/8 brim. Teardrops help keep the crown height down, which may be desirable...
I think the Saxon is too common, and maybe too sixties for this classic-era forum. I don't dig a stingy brim much - you have to be pretty slim in the face for it to look good. Many here like a wide ribbon, although I don't.
If the 2-1/4" brim is to your liking, Bencraft (a forum sponsor) sells...
Those are 3 pretty different hats - of them I prefer the Margate, as I like a bound brim and the width of 2.25" is right in my zone. If you tried it on and liked the way it looked, I would say go for it. The Nostalgia is going to look much bigger and floppier, the Saxon is considered stingy-brim...
Weren't Open Roads offered open crown back then? His hat looks either hand-bashed from open or just a cattleman's crease that's been beaten up over time. You might look at the Roadmaster, which is basically an undyed OR - it looks more old-fashioned to my eye, and apparently has less stiffen...
Looking good Duper, the Globester does not appear to be too tapered or short-crowned. I could never wear a Camp Draft with its wide brim and untapered crown, but this one looks good. I wish it came in some other colors, though. What is the sweatband material? Ditto your thoughts on felt - I've...
Hey Frank - I don't think I can pull off a homburg - neither does my wife, btw. A shame really, as this size is so rare, but I can't do it. Sorry and good luck, Carl
Sweet lid, no wonder you got compliments - what color is that one, by the way?
You may have seen so few hats because you were mostly in tourist zones during your stay. Most of the people you saw were probably also from out of town. I tend to see fedora in NYC (the few anyway) on the upper east...
A couple of questions - what is the brim width and crown height?
Sounds like it fits you well, do you know your noggin circumference?
More photos would help if possible, maybe a closeup of the lining and sweatband...
Great minds think alike and so on - I ordered a Stetson Brewster from Sterling yesterday. Was your Globester in stock? I have a 4 week wait for mine like GTDean.
