Ah, I get it, they ordered it and had it made for you. Hey, I think you'll probably like it, and you can let the rest of us know what the cashmere mix is like. So what color are you getting? As you go on getting more hats (and you probably will), in a few years the Lodi may become your go-to hat...
Well, if you like the crown shape and brim width of the Lodi but don't like the wool when you get it, you can always return it and opt for the Ashland I mentioned above with the same brim size of 2-1/4". Trying out the Lodi will give you an idea of whether you want a wider or narrower brim...
The Lodi and Chatham are the same shape - Stetson calls it profile 10. There is also the Stetson Downs, which is the same shape made from Royal grade fur felt, between the Lodi and Chatham in quality. It is definitely worth paying the extra for fur felt over wool, in my opinion, especially if...
It looks like a Stetson Saxon, although yours has an overwelt brim and I believe the Saxon is an underwelt. It's definitely modern with that liner logo - I've seen the checked white on white fabric in some other modern Stetsons, but I can't remember where. For comparison...
About 2/3 of the way down the page you'll find Scout felt hat stiffener:

Many other useful millinery odds and ends here as well.
Yeah, that is funny - here they are: http://www.akubra.com.au/products_straws.html
I myself might have preferred the Hayman over the Capricorn had I known it existed, as it has a somewhat narrower brim.
BTW, my Capricorn did not come with a fabric sweatband - it's pleather as in the other...
Well, I'm sitting here with my Capricorn on - it fits pretty well, maybe a tiny bit loose, so it's on target at size 62. The opening is about 8-5/8 by 6-3/4. I can stretch it lengthwise to nearly 8-7/8 but the brim starts to deform significantly. Any more than that and the brim goes all wonky...
Yep, a $1 seam ripper will prevent a ton of mistakes - they're good for removing those annoying plastic price tag thingies, opening pockets on new jackets, taking the label off a jacket sleeve, etc. It's surprising how often I use it.
I'm pretty sure you could iron a hat brim flat without much trouble, as long as it doesn't have a bound edge. My Stetson Chatham brim has become somewhat non-snappy and flat due to careless treatment on my part. Maybe those guys back in the day with flat brims were just too busy to get their hat...
I'd sure be interested in looking at your vintage stock when you decide to part with it - especially the Bott, sounds intriguing, a vintage hat that fits! The only vintage hat I ever had was a NOS Cavanagh, which I wore daily and completely destroyed over the years as a callow yute - I wish that...
Hey NMS, the navy Marlborough that Brent mentioned above (bought from me) is relisted in the classifieds for a bona-fide sale price - worth a look if you haven't picked something else already.
Scott - FWIW, if the circumference is 24", then that's a size 61 or 7-5/8. No surprise that a hat has shrunk over time, I guess, but you may find more possible trades with the hat listed at the actual wearable size, rather than the size on the label. It's a nice lid, but too small for my 7-3/4...
As far as I remember, a metal hard hat is not permitted on any construction site in New York. In any case, they're a bad idea - too bad, as I was not allowed to wear my dad's vintage aluminum cap. The brown fiberglass Skullgard for $71 is a good deal - I've worked with a few guys who wore them...
I recommend Hornets Hats, there were great to work with and my hat was made, shipped and arrived in the US in about 10 days. I suggest emailing them directly with your questions - I found them very responsive. They will modify ribbon size and color to your spec, generally without charge as the...
Hi again Frank - I have a badly refurbished Stetson Playboy II - I bought it NOS in about 1996, think it's from the 60s. It has a 1-1/2" brim, mighty snappy in back. The guy who cleaned it and replaced the sweat did a truly crappy job, and stretched it out a bit while he was at it - seems to be...
