I know nothing of these leather jackets, have never owned an A2 or Aero, but I have to agree, something felt off with these listings. I like to trust my gut with this kinda stuff--though, it would be interesting to see what the seller(s) says if you questioned the jackets' authenticity.
Guess I really was born in the wrong generation ;)
I'm planning on vacationing to japan before i graduate high school. Time to take back what's rightfully ours... I bet they're charging out the ass for vintage though
Well, people must have loved wearing three sizes too big, because it seems like most golden era jackets are roughly 40R. I only wish I could find a wide variety of 34/36R coats! And I'm kinda in the OP's boat where I'd rather not settle for repro just yet.
This is a very interesting hat! Your observation concerns more budget-value companies and products, which are undoubtably going to suck, compared to a Stetson or Borsalino. However, you would agree that a hat of such caliber made around the time of your western hat would be much better than...
Nah.
You and me, we wear the same sizes. I just suck it up and wait for clothing of my size. It does suck seeing items that you desire, but can't fit into. For me, it's almost always the length of a jacket or the shoulders. What you're doing sounds very strenuous, and frankly, not worth the...
You beat me to responding to him. I'm really not sure why the popular thought today is that EVERYONE had a hat on their had in the 1950's. In most pictures and movies I've seen, it's really only older men that are, and they're probably holding on to their old hats, from when they were made well...
Brother, I feel you with the height and weight thing. I'm a very thin man, and the most common deal breaker on jackets is the shoulder width. Every time! Mission success on this jacket, by the way. But why do I feel like you already knew it was excellent and you just had to show off? ;)
Lucky! No one ever wants to shop with me either, and I don't even take that long. Your partner is a keeper! Does he ever show interest in the garments you find?
It's impressive how you find these gems at second hand stores, considering how every store I've been to rarely has pre-1960's stuff...
In that case, these could well be work trousers (they certainly look like them), hence the cotton feel. As for the suspender buttons, I assumed they were older because by the late 30's and the 40's, most trousers had interior buttons. Just my $0.02
I've heard of this practice. Surely wearing a hat from this era, even if it was processed with mercury, would be totally safe to wear? I'm interested in getting my hands on a hat earlier than what I'm familiar with. Why did we use mercury anyway?
Hello,
I've handled a few modern hats, and the quality is unmatched with the vintages I've handled and worn. Does anyone have an idea of when construction, felt quality and leather quality were at its best? I mostly know 40's/50's fedoras, but I sometimes get envious of 20's/30's hat owners...
Yes, don't make the same mistake Edward did, as spectators are casual shoes.
Aa presented by other replies, there are a plethora of primers and guides for formal wear. Gentlemen's Gazette has a video and article on formal wear, and the Gazette has a very vintage and classic approach to...
I can't be of any help, but can you post pics of the tuxedo, just so I can be mesmerized? :D
I recently went to my first tailor, and she was very much against the vintage style. Hopefully, you find someone who is open to your style of tuxedo and will actually bother to alter it! Good luck.
I agree with that price. I probably wouldn't pay over $100 for a hat, vintage or modern. Though, I only own two, maybe I'll make an impulse purchase on a 1940's Cavanagh fedora, my dream hat :D
thanks! I should just post the guy's pics. Seller is venomindenim.
A beautiful 1940's unworn straw.
Sea Spray--Does anyone have some information on this maker? I remember seeing a 1940s Panama in this style from Sea Spray sell for a pretty penny.
Bah! That's ridiculous. I've...
