What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

TCM was having a military movie marathon in honor of Memorial Day, so I got to see No Time for Sergeants and The Best Years of Our Lives. The former was a charming and hilarious comedy. I would definitely be open to other movies that are similar in humor, perhaps other Andy Griffith movies. The...

My First Experience at a Tailor--Not good!

How old was the jacket? What was the tailor's actual reaction? You'd think these people would be more understanding of vintage fans' taste, seeing as they're attempting to preserve styles and practices from a time where men took more pride in their appearances, which is a lost art, at least in...

My First Experience at a Tailor--Not good!

I guess I'll have to take the plunge eventually. I do have a pair of pants I could Frankenstein on. Savile Row's merchandise is not something I'll be donning for a looooong time, at least as a purchase made by me. My grandfather, 9 years before he died, got a bespoke suit from a Savile Row...

My First Experience at a Tailor--Not good!

Thanks for your support. Yep, I knew immediately that she wasn't the right person to be giving my business. I try to think the best in people, but her reaction was a little uncalled for. Oh well. Thank you for the response. Do you really think with enough time I could just learn to do the...

    Show off the sports coats.

These are two awesome coats! I envy you. I wouldn't worry about the seller miscalculating that date, by the way. The tag and cut of the jacket both say 30's/40's to me, perhaps early 40's. They're stylish jackets, wear them with pride. Did you get them off eBay? I need to expand my sport coat...

    Priok & Wulsten Suit Jacket

If someone could translate that ticket stub that would be awesome! I don't know much about German suits, but the single breasted peak lapel style was very popular in the 30's. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

NRA RING~ HAS ANYONE SEEN ANOTHER LIKE IT?

What an impressive find. Can anyone simply explain why the NRA was deemed unconstitutional?

My First Experience at a Tailor--Not good!

Hello all, I thought I'd share something of note that I'd think could start some discussion. Today, I took a pair of 1950s pleated gab slacks (a $10 investment, thought it would be a good test run for my first trip to the seamstress) to my nearest tailor. Since I'm underage and broke, my mother...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253660177753 Blast it! I was going to pull the trigger, but the seller removed the BIN button, presumably to invite attention. Such a perfect hat and I need a summer hat very soon!

The Thread to Display Your 1930s Suits

Congratulations! I saw this listing and would have swiped it if it were my size. Glad it's gone to a lounger. It's a great suit, moth bites are a shame.

    Vintage Workwear

Guess I'll revive this ol' thread. Here's a 1950s Bamboo Weavers loop collar work shirt. Interestingly it features selvedge lines and the cotton is very light and breathable. Love the pockets--yesteryear's workwear was something else. Pics courtesy of seller, indian head Vintage...

    1960s Bradlees Sweaters

Awesome sweaters! If I found these I would have thought they were more recent repros! Finding deadstock items for a bargain is a thrill. The crew neck with orange stripes is definitely something I'd wear with flannel slacks and a tie for a collegiate look. Great finds.

    Pet Peeves with Vintage?

This goes without saying, big armholes are a sign of faulty construction. I mean no disrespect to GHT, but it seemed like he was lecturing me on how people were right on how my jackets fit badly, even though what I meant was that some of them looked more like: Than what you'd see today: With...

    Pet Peeves with Vintage?

I'm afraid i don't understand. A suit from the 1930s will have a much different silhouette than a suit now. You own a zoot suit, you know it's wildly different than garments worn today.

    Pet Peeves with Vintage?

You two bring up excellent points. It feels awful to be proud of vintage pieces, but when introduced into the daily routine, evokes worry about when or how they'll wear out. I have observed vintage-goers being very self-conscious about the current state of their outfit. The funny thing is, my...

    Pet Peeves with Vintage?

Though I would choose vintage styles and pieces over contemporary, there are some limitations or gripes I have with vintage, and thought that perhaps other Loungers thought the same. Here's your place to vent. Can be about true vintage and/or repro items. Here are some of mine: - Garments were...

    Vintage Spectator Shoes

Yeah, vintage shoes have such risks. On one of my florsheim specs, most of the original lace ripped off, so I have to replace those. Also, my Nunn-bushes make a crunching sound on hard ground. I assumed they were just air pockets in the cork outsole, but with these shoes one can never tell...

    Show us your TIES

I've actually had this one for a while, but just realized its value and quality. A red, white and blue silk bold look tie that remains my highest quality tie in my collection. The silk just feels excellent to the touch and the colors are still very rich. Works well with a double-breasted coat...

    Show us your SHOES !!!

I have noticed that as I take steps on hard surfaces with my 1940's Nunn-bushes it makes a crackling sound. It isn't the rubber heels making the sound, but the cork outsoles. What's causing this sound and what actions can I take towards diminishing it, assuming something bad may happen to the shoes?
