In some social settings, dressing above the crowd may be perceived as an insult, sorta implying that you're better than everyone else. If the wearer is truly being condescending in this manner, people will pick up on it.
Every tie of this cut I've seen was a clip-on, so I'd assume this conclusion. I don't like the square-end bowties that much, I fancy the diamond-shaped ones.
Minimally-lined, and has a mod-syle pattern. Could this one be from the 60's?
These look slick, Eric! They look like they'd suit a vintage OR modern wardrobe too. The brand, I'm not familar with--have you got a date on these shoes? Also loving the hats I've seen you wearing in some threads--are all/most of them vintage? Stay looking sharp!

To be honest, I can't speak for women, but many men's mainstream styles in the last 80-or-so years have aged exceptionally well (give or take a few dark times for mainstream fashion...). The second picture (whom I'm...
I think you hit the nail on the head with some things here, especially the demise of the best vintage menswear pieces. I envy people from the 70's that got into collecting. The good stuff was still there (consider that it was only made 30-40 years ago at the time!) and the only people who sought...
I'm not much of a watch wearer, but how difficult (or easy) is it to find these antique/bordering on antique ones? Particularly the watches GJH has been displaying on this thread.
I'd love to see pictures. I don't know what kind of people you meet in your environment, but since my life revolves around people who don't know sartorial dress when they see it, I normally feel like I can get away with wearing garments that don't have a great fit. And perhaps they just don't...
I found these loafers that belonged to my father. He has no recollection of when they came, and they look hardly worn. I honestly find these shoes incredibly boring and low-quality (and it seems like he feels the same way ). Insole is lackluster and the leather feels cheap. Perhaps...
Super spectators, Michael. They look as if you travelled back in time and retreived them. They would look even better under some cream summer slacks! Get any comments on these shoes?
SJC's products look fantastic and almost like owning the real thing! A bit too pricey for me, to be completely honest, especially the trousers. If they had a sale on polo shirts, I perhaps would get a couple.
Here's the specs. The Florsheims (brown & white) don't have as much of a fresh outta the 40's look, but that's what i get from a measly $40 spent. I just wish these could stay fresh forever, so i could pass them forward to the next generations of Fleishers!
The length and pattern reminds me much of what I used to think MOST 1940's neckties were like. Though I realized there was much more nuance with the world of Golden Era neckwear, I still had appreciation for these kipper ties. Great tie, could see that being paired with a black double-breasted suit!
Excited to eventually reveal my two pairs of true vintage 1940's spectators; a pair of brown and white captoe Florsheims and a pair of black and white spade sole Nunn-Bush Ankle Fashions. Just need to condition and hopefully get my hands on some polish for the Florsheims. Stay tuned!
Really? I find they're the most common vintage garments these days. They're everywhere online and at vintage shops (especially the late 40s ties, because few people care for them)
What I find odd about modern ties are some of the color choices: super bold satin-y shades of pink, purple, blue...
