You highlighted a good point. I don't know how long Walter has been searching for a suitable panama, but 7 1/4 doesn't seem like an unusual size in the secondhand market.
Depends on what's an outrageous price for you. Typically, you can't afford to be picky with spending if you're seeking a...
I doubt other Loungers immediately found the best hats, suits, shoes, etc. At one point, they had crap to start out with. Think of your hat as a "placeholder" until you get the dream panama. Besides, it will give you a juxtaposition. A mediocre quality hat, and then a premium quality hat...
I know what it's like to seek vintage in scarce sizes. All you can do is, frankly, wait. At least if you find a vintage in your size it likely belonged to an adult. Most of my clothing probably belonged to a kid that outgrew it! Doesn't make me feel very proud!
Man, I can't even imagine that. I...
Thanks, Bob. At first, I was a little disappointed at the color of the band because it looked more black in the seller's pics. This velvet-y purple has grown on me. It works extremely well with the hat.
My own pics of my first Panama. Not extravagant, a cheap 50s Sea Spray, but stylish nonetheless.
Will look cool above spectators and some summer slacks
Altering shoulders seems like a very costly operation. Not worth it, imo. I'll just have to hunt for coats in that range you mentioned (for padded suits, which is all you'll find these days anyway).
I hate to necro threads, but damn, that's a find if I've ever seen one. One hell of a first suit, and in a very conservative color and pattern. Hope you've worn this one with pride.
Hello,
This may seem like a silly question, but i have been eyeing a late 40's suit that has a shoulder width of 18". This coat is 17.5":
Would that extra 0.5" make me look ridiculous? Just to preface: the suit I am watching is much less roomy in the chest and waist than this sack I'm...
E-commerce sellers advertising their item with buzzwords that have nothing to do with what they're selling. "Rat Pack" for 1960's hats, "Art Deco" for literally anything from the 30's and 40's, "mod", "gangster". This extends beyond vintage garb, and it's very annoying. It almost makes titles...
Funny story. Nice to know you found a tailor whose tolerant of your ancient tuxedo. I'm surprised she hasn't dealt with several pieces of formal wear that old before. Most surviving suits from then are formal garb anyway. Can't wait to see the tux.
