Nice jacket! How old is it? I just purchased one...fits well and all but my gripe with it is the leather is TOO perfect...feels artificial, like vinyl. Weird, eh?
Thanks. I bought this new from Schott in March of 2021. I know what you mean. There's a soft slight sponginess that goes away. I bought it because I loved the black 618 I had bought from Schott a couple years earlier. It's 5 years now and the brown 618 is starting to show some character. It's also pretty good in the cold. Don't give up on it.

Outside I'm wearing (and enjoying every moment) my Pike Brothers N1.
It's around -10c around here these days.
Leather pants also work great with the lower temps.

But inside I am wearing the newly altered/tailored Vanson Octagon B all the time now, can't get enough of it.
As the lighting is good today I took some shots of it paired with the leather pants I've been wearing very regularly all winter (also Vanson "El Paso").

Looking super awesome! I have also ordered a pair of the El Pasos' but due to the production times I am going to have to be patient...

Wow, thanks for the photo and more than that for the great post. Unfortunately, it further fuels my desire for a Donkey Coat, and equally unfortunately, I am stgill biased towards the Navy Blue/Brown Horsehide version from Simmons Bilt.
Fortunately tholugh, I am so shocked at my recent jacket spree, that I am sure I am done for the next months for sure.

Really cool photo of the two of you as well. My sister used to live in Derry for fice years, so I recommended the bio to her just now.

So, I did it.

Simmons Bilt Donkey Jacket. Black Melton Wool with Black horsehide patches.

I went for the Black/Black version as the very beautiful variant Blue Wool/Brown Leather was too flashy in the end.

Of course, the blue-collar appeal of the originals completely vanishes with something like this. A bit like getting a Real McCoys Repro of an M65 or so.
Over here, Donkey Coats have no cultural background at all, so I am fine wearing it as just an overcoat.

At this time of year here early morning jacket choice can be critical.
"Coolest" day for us for the next week, and we had a motorcycle run into the hinterland, 150K's loop ride.
Vanson Sturgis size L with the arm and back vents open today was the best guess.
Some of the ride was open country roads with high speed sections for "miles".
