Checking out the historical side of my new city, Indianapolis. Drove by Fountain Square this morning. Lots of cool vintage neon in the area.
Above is my photo from this morning. Below is one from the web showing it lit up at night.
Visited this place just this morning for lunch. Shelby Street Diner in Indianapolis. Great food reviews. I had their One Pound chili dog and it was delicious. The place has enough vintage charm without the kitschy faux '50s décor, but I guess that appeals to some people.
Greetings from Indianapolis.!!
Hi all,
I'm not at all new to The Fedora Lounge (945 posts to date), it's just been a good while since I've been active here.
However, I am brand new to the Indianapolis area, having just moved here from northern Alabama, where I've spent most of my life. Just...
I tried pork brains for the first time yesterday morning, scrambled in eggs. Just the thought of eating brains had kept me away, but I have to say it wasn't bad. Tasted a bit like spam and eggs to me. There was an aftertaste that was a little metallic making it obvious it was some type of...
My day has so far been uneventful, but my past few weeks certainly haven't. As some of you may or may not have noticed I haven't been around the Lounge for awhile. That's because I became very ill right before Christmas, and on December 28th I was rushed into emergency surgery to have my left...
I remember those well. When I was a little kid my family used to frequent a popular local resta)urant named Starkey's. It was an underground restaurant, literally. It was on the basement level of what used to be a hotel and you descended stairs to the entrance. Anyway this place was the most...
Here's an update on my Curse Of The Jaggar Moon project: A rough edit (no sound) of one of the first completed scenes from my no-budget film noir comedy, CURSE OF THE JAGGAR MOON. The film mixes new, original content with old public domain Hollywood clips to tell an original story. All new...
Dinner tonight was Subway sandwiches, but the real treat (which I'm having as I type this) is an after dinner snack of homemade Cajun-style boiled peanuts. Fantastic!
Just finished watching the first season (10 episodes) of Hell On Wheels via Netflix. Been on a Western kick lately and it seems to fit the bill just fine.
I've never watched The Walking Dead. Used to be a big fan of zombie flicks up through most of Romero's films and beyond, but when something...
As I recall, East Side Motel in Gatlinburg, TN still had them in some rooms last time we were there. As recently as a few years ago you could still find them at cheap mom & pop motels all over the South.
Yep, the Cowboy Action Shooters for sure lean more toward the romanticised, Hollywood version of the Old West in both style and practice. The classic fast-draw shoot out we've all seen in countless Western movies and TV shows is in fact a complete myth. To the best of my knowledge there is not...
I don't see the Golden Age as ending with the close of the second World War, as to me Film Noir, the apex of American cinematic style, had it's own golden age during the five to ten years post WWII.
I hope this question is appropriate for The Golden Era, but since someone recently suggested that the "Golden Age" might actually span the 100 years from the 1850s to the 1950s, I figure it possibly is.
Having always loved Western films and history, I have recently taken an interest in Old...
Finished off the last of the Thanksgiving leftovers yesterday, except for a little bit of turkey meat. Today I had a turkey sandwich and finished that off too.
Excellent! I have not seen The Time Jumpers since their move to 3rd and Lindsley a couple years ago, but used to be a regular to their old Monday night gig at The Station. Chris Scruggs also does a great traditional (retro) country show most Sunday nights at The Stone Fox, but unfortunately I...
Depends greatly on what you prefer to go along with that cocktail. Are you looking for a mellow place to catch some good live music? A place where the locals go, rather than the countless touristy country dives down on lower Broadway?
Personally, if I were in town and free on a Monday night...
