I searched for the most authentic Egg Cream I could find (one correctly made with U-bet syrup) while in NYC, but didn't have much luck. Finally found a passable one at the Airline Diner, but an old New Yorker friend of mine still proclaimed it not exactly correct after looking at the picture...
I have sort of slipped away from the vintage look for awhile. Though I still like to dress up nice (and vintage) for going out on the town or special occasions, I have returned to mostly jeans and t-shirts for my daily wear.
I have also begun to grow my hair long for the first time in over 20...
Visited the classic Airline Diner in Queens during my recent time in NY. It's now a Jackson Hole burger joint, but still very cool and serves a fantastic burger. This diner has been featured n many films including Goodfellas, and on the cover of Stray Cats "Gonna Ball" album.
Here's a fairly new neon sign (purposely made to look vintage) that a friend of mine built for a local drive-in restaurant in Florence, Alabama. Pretty cool that some people are returning to stuff like this, if only for the sake of nostalgia.
It's been a while since I posted in the Lounge. Just spent the month of August living and working in New York. Here's a few photos from my time there . . .
Had to throw this image in. Me hanging out with the ghosts of a few old friends on a street corner they made famous.
I think that instead of cutting music and arts programs they should eliminate advanced math courses as a requirement (those beyond basic practical math) for children planning to enter fields where it isn't needed.
I HATED all forms of advanced math, knew I would never use it, and forcing me to...
It really ticks me off whenever I see someone wearing a North Face product with that stupid "The North Face" loco on the back shoulder. I'm not too keen on visible maker's labels on clothing anyway, but that has to be the dumbest placement of a logo I have ever seen. It bugs me to no end.
Homemade taco salad: Crushed Fritos corn chips, lettuce, ground beef with taco seasoning and green chilies, pico de gallo, shredded sharp cheddar, sour cream, chopped black olives and taco sauce.
Since I let my subscription to Sirius lapse (I used o listen to the Radio Classics channel all the time), it was probably a downloaded episode (on my Ipod) of Bogart and Bacall's Bold Venture show. Either that or Johnny Dollar.
I have lately been trying out all the different barbershops around Indy that offer hot-towel straight-razor shaves. I hit a new one every couple of weeks. In between that, I have been using some disposable 5-blade contraption for about a year - the same one - and it still shaves me just fine.
While it would never stand up to the original, it might be interesting to see what modern Hollywood does with it. We would expect a train wreck, so if it turns out worth watching, all the better. I'd almost rather see it cast with unknowns than Hollywood's current A-list. Of course we know that...
I had sea snail in Mexico once. Not bad. I'm not talking about conch (though I've eaten conch many times and love it) but a proper snail about like the one in your photo. Sea-snail cocktail in fact. Like a shrimp cocktail but with slugs.
Man, I'll eat just about anything that comes from the sea. I've just about tried it all and the only thing that I really haven't cared for is sea urchin. Tastes like dirt off the ocean floor.
Yes, I've seen this commercial bouncing around the interwebs I give them points for the vintage '30s influence.. but as a fan of traditional hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation, flash-based stuff like this can sometimes be difficult to warm up to. Adobe Flash can be a wonderful animation...
