I realize this thread is several years old, but I just found it in a search and wanted to reply. I just moved to Indy a year ago and I too would like to find more people in the area, fellow loungers or otherwise, who are into vintage places, clothing, lifestyle, etc. An occasional meet up would...
Welcome to the Lounge and your new obsession. Living in LA, you have an advantage over a lot of us when it comes to collecting, what with all the cool vintage stuff that Hollywood seems to discard from time to time.
Classic Wayfarers all the way. I prefer them in tortoise shell, as I think the lighter look is a little more vintage-y and a little less cliched.
Clubmasters run a close second, but the '70s ruined Aviators for me.
Dinner tonight, a slow-cooked beef roast. My recipe is super simple: A roast, baby red potatoes, onions, carrots, McCormick's beef stew seasoning pack, one can or bottle of Coke (16 to 18 oz), and enough water to almost cover.
Just found this thread. I moved to Indy from Alabama about a year ago and love it here. I live on the Southside, just off Keystone and just inside the "Loop", in an area feels very rural yet is only 10 minutes from downtown. By far my favorite "vintage-y" area of the city has to be Fountain...
I have to laugh every time I pass by this sign on Meridian Street near downtown Indianapolis. I believe the place, Berringer's Tavern, is now permanently closed, but local word is it was once a great place to eat.
I'm planning a short road trip soon down the first portion of Historic ROUTE 66, from it's start in Chicago to St. Louis. I live in Indy so that would be just a big triangle for me. Any suggestions for not-to-miss stops that might be of interest to a fellow Lounger?
Luckily there's an AMC theater less then two miles from my house. Got my tickets today for the 7pm showing tomorrow. Very Excited to see this classic film on the silver screen.
. . . and looking for suggestions from my fellow Loungers on what to see and do while there besides the typical tourist fair. Places that would be of particular interest to the Fedora Lounge crowd.
The Nation's very first 911 service was installed in the unlikely town of Haleyville, Alabama, in the late 1960's, and at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 1968 the first 911 call was placed from the mayor's office, and answered a short distance away at the police station.
I know this because the very...
I just put a new Dobbs fedora on layaway yesterday at a local hat shop. Will probably pick it up next week. It's my very first new fedora. All my others have been vintage.
I would establish a major motion picture studio somewhere other than Hollywood, but largely based on to old Hollywood studio system, pre-1960s. Then set about producing a number of films I'd love to see made, that there's little to no chance of Hollywood ever doing. Most would be period...
I grew up in the Shoals area, but have lived all over northern Alabama. Huntsville was the last place I lived before moving to Indy a few months ago. However, I always did most of my western shopping in Nashville or online.
They said it was somewhere around 15F here in Indy today. I've seen the wind chill lower my native Alabama, at about -5, but I've never seen water instantly freeze when splashed on a windshield before. That happened today.
My lady's homemade meatloaf for dinner tonight when I get home after work. But last night I made myself this delicious midnight Mexican omelet made with chorizo, pico de gallo, shredded cheddar, and topped with sour cream. I crave these things!
