I visited twice in 2021 and wouldn't call it a mecca. I was greatly disappointed, didn't find anything of quality, especially at my 7 3/8 size. When you first walk into the store, you are excited. But then after closer inspection, you don't find anything of higher quality at a good price. I...
When I watch vintage films from the 30s-60s, I notice the hats the men wear and when they take them off. Men usually kept them on at bars and pubs and greasy food joints, bank and hotel lobbies, etc., but take them off at nicer restaurants while eating, inside homes, etc. In other words the...
In the back where often the sweat band is stitched. It is possible to just remove the sweat band and gain almost a hat size. I did this once to a cool 1960s Borsalino in size ~7 to 7 1/8 where I removed the sweat band and stretched to fit a 7 3/8 rather nicely. The hat was only cost $25, so it...
I have stretched from a 7 1/4 to a 7 3/8. First I took out the stitching of the sweat band, snipped the reed that goes around the sweat band, steamed to back of the hat on the outside and then did the stretch. I have a large antique wooden stretcher that the hat fits over . Then I let it sit a...
Took a gamble on a vintage Cavanaugh, 7 3/8, 2 1/4 brim for a cheap price on Facebook Market with crummy photos. Turns out it is very nice, in excellent condition. Not sure what era it is from, but I love it, especially for the price. I don't always win those gambles.
In also have a Borsalino with a tag just like this and believe it to be from the 1960s. If memory serves one such hat passed through my hands that had both this kind of tag along with the typical white label that indicated it was dated between 1961-1965.
It's on Ebay. Guy said it was a 2 " brim, but label says 1 3/4. I am amazed that many don't realize the differences between a 1 3/4, 1 7/8, 2, and 2 1/8 inc brim. Many just estimate 2 inches like they are all the same. I realize I really like a 2 1/8 inch brim. 1 7/8 is the smallest I want to...
Saw this Templeformon Ebay for $29 in my 7 1/2 size with only two ugly photos, but my other Stylepark Templeform is such great quality (rivals vintage Borsalino), I figured it was worth the gamble. A little steam and shaping and it looks great. It also is high quality felt and structure. The...
Two vintage Stylepark Templeform 7 1/2 I recently picked up. I took a chance on the fedora on Ebay for the photos looked poor and the seller was a jerk in his responses. But for $29, I got one of the best deals around. Gambles like this don't always pay off. The homburg I picked up from Rabbit...
The tag looks like it was made between 1961-1965 if I go by what has been shared earlier on this site. Looks like your gamble paid off. They don't always work out that great. I am waiting for a vintage Stylepark Templeform fedora I snagged yesterday soon after it was listed. Only two photos...
Hopefully an expert here will chime in. But that would give me pause. I have seen a number of Borsalinos on Ebay that look cheaper and not up to standard. None say Qualitia Superiore or made in Italy. I know for a time Bollman Hat Co made lower quality Borsalinos in the USA. I would never...
You know the white stickers with the two numbers in the right hand corner followed by a dash indicates the date. So it is 1978. They only provided this for the few years 1976-1981 according to what has been shared previously. It looks nice. How about a couple of photos you wearing it. That tells...
You did an amazing job. The hat looks great on you. I also received a beautiful 1950s Borsalino Homburg and is in mint condition. I just don't like the look on me seeing the underside of the brim while looking straight ahead. I used my hand to straighten the curl on the sides, so it looks flat...
I am not used to the look of wearing a homburg. I have a beautiful Borsalino Homburg from the 1950s . I don't like the way I look seeing the underside of the brim and the flange on the sides when looking straight on. When I flatten it with my hand so all sides look even, yet still maintaining...
The modern size tag and having New York on the head band would give me pause. I see they want $40. After postage and insurance, it would be more. I would offer $20 and take a gamble if I felt I could restore enough I would want to wear it. It's my size as well, but it looks too trashed for to...
