I'd call the men's look in the above picture poor but trying. They're wearing suits, but they look scruffy. Nobody's shoes are shined. Their jackets are wrinkled at the elbow. The man at the far right looks like he is just wearing an undershirt under his suit.
I think the question is really...
I have some brand loyalty, but mostly out of price and convenience.
I'm a tactile person, and I can often tell by feeling something whether it's high quality. Smooth, heavy objects with a consistent finish are usually good. Seams and joinery should not have waves or gaps. Scratches and dings...
A Christmas Story--I never get tired of seeing the cranky elves, the leg lamp, the boy with his tongue stuck the to flag pole, the sparks from the plug-in, or anything else. As I recall, that movie was nearly shelved. A Charlie Brown Christmas was nearly shelved as well.
Christmas Vacation...
Joie DeVive, Candied Violets, Widebrimm and I visited the "Molly Brown" house last month. The movie takes quite a lot of artistic license with Maggie Brown's life; she was a grande dame and not a cabaret singer.
I generally like stage musicals. As for movies, I like The Sound of Music, Yankee Doodle Dandy and The Wizard of Oz. The rest of them literally put me to sleep. And as much as I love dance, movies with Fred and Ginger and Gene and the rest of them are just dreadful, IMHO.
Dancing with a guy who is a little hot and sweaty is fine. Putting your hand on a shirt that is soaking wet is unpleasant. Anyone who perspires that much should bring an extra shirt.
However, I think the reason that some people get very hot and sweaty is that they dance fast and furiously to...
I wouldn't wear anything irreplaceable to a swing dance. Shirts get sweat stains, shoes take a beating on a crowded floor, and people can spill drinks.
Vtgdance, you might try the yehoodi.com board, or sending a PM to Reetpleat, Matt Deckard or Forgotten Man (since Dhermann doesn't seem to...
Is this for a competition or exhibition? If it's for regular dancing, some short-sleeved shirts and full-cut pants should be fine. Tucked-in shirts tend to become untucked.
I don't know how they dress in upstate NY, but around here, you'd be overdressed in a jacket.
I use Shout; it works on dried blood. Hydrogen peroxide works as well (soak a cotton swab in it and you have a tool for cleaning a bloody nose), but doesn't it bleach fabric?
Maybe it's the hard water around here, but I never noticed any difference when I used Oxyclean in my laundry.
I took the shoe to the cobbler and he asked if I thought if it was worth $10 to repair it. The leather had some slight cracking in it; nothing that can't be hidden with shoe polish. Apparently he's not a lover of vintage shoes.
If your friend isn't averse to it, I suggest checking out higher end consignment stores. They sell near-new (and sometimes brand new) clothes for 30% of retail.
Now we're cooking with gas. Based on the data you provided, possibly the best choice would be an emerald green scarf with a fine texture, narrow and not too long. A medium-rose scarf might go well with her green coat and coloring.
