Haha now that's an amusing crossed line! I can confirm 'cracker' is a compliment. Derived I think from 'cracking' similar to 'smashing'. What Ho British compliments etc!
Generally speaking older (British) ties tend to be unlined, and are finely stitched along their blade edges (I can't remember what this is called, but someone on here can tell you I'm sure). Some are lined, but they are rarer I'd say and tend to be the higher-end ones. Also, as esteban68 points...
Quick last questions gents - what is a good sturdy weight for a pair of slacks? I'm afraid I don't know much about fabric weight at all. Also, have people had good success with Luxire's trousers and jackets etc? I know a lot of you are big fans of their shirts. Will they make a shirt up if I...
Joshua Barrett - take a look at the reverse of the ties. What are the labels like and how are they lined? Length can help indicate but as with many things it's a mixture of features that helps to identify. Any brand names?
Thanks dh66! No batteries for that Atkinson - straight into the mains socket! Nice to have some praise from the US for some British ties ;)
Retro Spectator - the ties are great. If you're handy with a needle and thread (which I can see you are from your handmade ties) you can shorten those ties...
Seems to be the case gents - for me you can't beat a nice plaid tie in a rough or fine wool! I've had a bonanza recently of good finds - if I get time I shall post them in bulk.
Metatron - Awesome. I'm still waiting for mine. Just ordered one from MamieBlues Paris since you suggested them. Hopefully it won't take so long as Sterkowski...!
I've ordered a Sterkowski, all told it came to something in the £30 range. Still waiting on it yet (been a couple of weeks or so) but excited from the reviews. Can also recommend Olney.
Very nice again esteban. Nice colour, sort of indigo. Always good to have the button fly and change pocket too. Hope the fabric hunt for the waistcoat goes well!
Some curious ones. All have the 'Woolmark' symbol on them - two Munrospuns and one unknown with what I assume is the 'International Wool Secretariat' initials on it. I can only assume that the fellow who owned these worked for the IWS - I wasn't aware it was a design label or anything. Anybody...
