It's definitely worth a visit. Give them a Google and look at their gallery. And keep me in mind of swaps and purchases when you sweep them there charity shops ;)
Seems a shame to keep them rolling over like that. I've been watching a black db 1930s blazer roll around for about two years and the seller has never budged from £125! Who'd ever pay so much for just a run of the mill blazer with defects?!
Anyway...
Thanks estaban - not sure what the pattern...
Dh66 - Yes it's interesting really. Perhaps chosen as a decent contrast to the random gaggle of designs they wanted to sew on to them! What are their brands out of interest? All different or the same?
True - I suppose it's OK to indulge oneself if there is an ideal tie, but those ties have been listed for ages now, and not sold. So I suppose it isn't just us that think they're too pricey!
I love Loch Lomond - we always stop there on out way up to Glencoe. There's a great pub up north of there called 'The Drover's' if you've ever been? It's an experience!
Dh66 - Thanks! I still can't work out whether it's like some sort of Olympic torch type of picture, or maybe Aztec sacrifice, or a giant red fellow on top of some sky scrapers. And as for their boldness...well...everybody has to have some spice in their life haha! ;) Those painted ties you have...
TT - Yes it's nice just to have that tie with the cardboard label on anyway, despite the damage. Goes to show that moths really do go for Rayon! As for the wool one, I think 1960s would be about right, going on the width. Still a lovely classic wool tie though.
HBK - mine was from that same...
Hopefully you folks are still interested in lovely Scottish ties!
A few quite old ones, I'll just show the small-blades with the labels for convenience - a no-nonsense 'Lochmarl', an equally no-nonsense 'Munrospun' (with the earliest version of the label I have come across), a 'Fostrian Scotch...
Some additions to the collection.
On the left is an old 'Special Quality' which annoyingly has a greasy patch where the knot ties (any suggestions for cleaning this would be greatly appreciated).
In the middle is an unworn 'Standard Quality'. Sadly it has been attacked by moths in about half a...
A few different ones to the sort I usually like.
A 'Trias' silk tie by 'Foster Brothers', and a rather creased anti-crease 'Linosair' (oh the irony) from 'Hilton Hird' tie specialist shop in Llandudno.
An unusual 'Pennleigh' (which I've been told is American? Perhaps someone can confirm?)...
dh66 - Thanks! That one is particularly unusual, especially for a British tie.
Metatron - Thanks for the compliments. That tie on the left you have there is exactly like one I have myself - does yours have a fabric content label? I can't seem to work out what mine is made out of. I'll post it...
Exactly. Wrinkles are all part of the charm!
Do you find that very white or cream items of clothing accumulate lots of daily muck (ie seat, cuffs, jacket collar etc)? I don't own any but am tempted to but don't know the level of cleaning care they require.
Probably earlier - Sports became 'Blue' in the fifties I think. Unless it being all rayon rather than rayon and cotton makes it later? I have one with the same label that would seem to be quite old. Very cool tie though whenever it's from. What's the dimensions?
A few more of interest.
'Caribbean' brand tie - nice and fun, and the only wool and Terylene blend I've come across. It's a very thin material, but feels fine quality. I'm thinking 1960s, but it is only about 48" long so who knows! It'll be perfect for summer.
An odd one, a 'Crystaline' wool...
Estaban - I've come across a wool tie today with shiny thread plaid like that Tootal you showed me at Belper. I'll post it to 'show us your ties' later. Incidentally, if you haven't sold that one yet I'll take it off your hands!
