The Bushman is a great hiking hat. Lots of coverage for sun and rain. You can put a drawstring on it and it has a little ventilation (very little but it does have two grommet holes).
Beautiful Alan. I wonder when I see that contrasting ribbon color if it was originally contrasting or has time and exposure changed it from something that originally was more matching?
Those number designations can be deceiving as well. I have a Stetson 3X Fifteen that is a much nicer felt than my Stetson Sovereign Twenty. The Fifteen is an earlier hat and the 3X trumps the Sovereign in terms of quality.
I've always wondered if the 7XCB or XXXXXXX Clear Beaver is undyed. I know the X's are not always meaningful but Clear Beaver sounds like the good stuff.
OR is an Open Road
Silverbelly is a very light beige/silver color (depends on hat make; some are more yellowish some are more greyish)that is common for Open Roads
Stetson Royal Deluxe Open Road 50's
Royal Deluxe was a quality designation one step up from the bottom which was Royal at the time...
I stumbled on it when I was there a while ago. Some young Jewish men were preparing for a trip to Israel and it was on the counter. I think they gave me a good deal on one as I bought a hat that day as well.

If you must have new, the modern Borsalino's are generally pretty lightweight. I'd get a lighter color as well and a tall crown. Having a tall crown makes a noticeable difference. Not having the crown right close to your scalp is key.
A lot of vintage hats are quit light like Stratoliners and...
Thanks for the kind words Rick, Mayser, Hatophile and dh66.
Rick it's a new one I got recently from Bencraft. I checked out a couple of colors and went with the lightest. Going to wear this and my Akubra's a lot this summer. Gonna go easy on my vintage hats, I worry about ruining the...
Mayser-very cool and unique color and ribbon treatment. The variety of hats you have is staggering.
Moon-I've got a Brewster too and wear it a lot in the summer. Not ready to give up the felts yet.
Harv-Wow! That Northwest is a stunner in the sunlight (it's a stunner anyway but the sunlight...
