Oof, Kevin...
not my cup of tea, let's just say that. What he's explaining probably holds true for JJ's target audience and available stock.
If you like the hat, wear the hat. As I've said before, personally I consider 2 1/2 a medium width. Most Open Roads are 2 3/4". I now usually go for 3"...
Thanks Greg! I really like the proportions on this one. If the eBay listing is to be believed, it came from the estate of a 'fashionable, upper-west side opera singer.'
Thanks Max! Graham sure did a great job on your MacLachlan.
I've been wearing one of my go to vintage hats, the Stetson Junior Cowboy for the past two days. Probably mid to late 40's or later. I found the ad, below which unfortunately did not have a date reference.

I got mine from Purebeaver. Just spitballing, but heat shrink wire tubing might do the trick for a hardware store fix.
Forgot to post these earlier. Still mostly wearing the same handful of hats, including personal build #2, the Bob Dylan hat. Nutria/rabbit felt, horse hair band, half curled brim.
With the doggo at Fort Funston, one of the many former coastal defense sites around here. The battery in the...
Allow me to pile on some more compliments on your handiwork, Terry. Great refurb work, and looks good even better on your head. I really like the crease you chose!
Well, I already wanted the natural felt and was hoping it was an undyed felt to begin with...so I'll still probably buy it.
But I also don't regret shelling out the extra for the FEPSA blanks.
Well, I can give you half an answer. During the 150th year, there was a Gun Club model, which was a heathered long hair pork pie (another Matt Deckard selection). Currently, there is a selection of 5x hats listed in the western catalog as the Gun Club collection. Historically, they have also...
I really dig the crease in this one! Not a style that shows up in today's hats that much.
Fuzzy western, preferably vintage, is next on my list. Hopefully it will be half as nice as yours, Joao. Glad to see your more regular posts.
Finding someone who can work on an un-reeded sweatband may be an issue. I am far from an expert on Top Hats, but if you're in the LA area, I would check with Baron Hats or Gunner Foxx. The latter has more of a modern take on hats to say the least, but he does do toppers.

Tim @PureBeaver on instagram had been selling pre-made bows. Might be worth reaching out as he also has a nice supply of vintage ribbon.
99% of men's hats have traditionally used grosgain ribbon.
Co-leader of the Māori party in Aotearoa/New Zealand, and noted opponent of neck ties, Rawiri Waititi. He was temporarily expelled from parliament for wearing a Māori taonga in place of the required neck tie. The requirement was later rescinded after public uproar.
If you're going to look for a relatively inexpensive straw hat around $130ish, just be mindful of the material. There are a variety of things sold as "straw" hats. You have your natural straws (e.g. Coconut palm; toquilla straw aka Panama hats; wheat straw; palm leaf, etc). But you will also...
