2.5"" was a fairly common mid century fedora brim width. I think you'll be fine.
I'm not very tall and I'm fairly skinny and most of my hats nowadays are a minimum of 2.5". I haven't been taking a lot of straight-on hat pics, but this is a 2.5" brim Stratoliner. This is one of my smaller brims.
Thanks Steve! I left the Stetson pin on this one because it's so nice that Stetson/Matt Deckard should get some bragging rights. The Tobacco Brown is nice and rich and the felt is very malleable.
Thanks gents, this is even an outlet hat apparently, given the punched sweat. The only real flaw...

The Premier Strats were described as such in this post.
IIRC, the Excellent quality hats are all beaver, but if you pressed me, I'm not sure where I remember this from.
The hat block needs to be about 1/4" more in circumference than whatever you need the finished hat size to be. When the sweatband is installed, it should be the correct size.
They had them at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas when I visited a few years ago.
And they do sell them online: https://www.lbjstore.com/all-the-way-with-lbj-lbjs-open-road-resistol-hat.html
Looks pretty much like most 60's hats.
Any time you see the clear plastic/vinyl tip liner, it's mid-to-late fifties at the absolute earliest. Black sweatbands were also more typical in the 60s/70s.

This photograph is purported to show John Henry Schnell on the right, with two members of the Wakamatsu colony, established by Schnell (himself a Prussian immigrant) and three Japanese families fleeing the aftermath of the 1868 Boshin civil war.
This was my "haven't finished my coffee yet" answer.
The shrinkage/distortion and welted brim are pretty sure giveaways of a modern wool felt hat. There are many hats like this from various manufacturers, so without seeing the inside of the hat, it's really impossible to say.
Here are some...
The current iteration of the "hat care" section on their site does say that you can use some steam on the brim and crown, but do advise "We do not recommend completely immersing your Akubra hat in water as this may distort the shape."
Click the "media" button at the top of the box as you are typing out your reply. It looks like a filmstrip. Copy and paste the URL of the video.
When you say "blocked" do you mean you actually changed the blockshape of the hat by using a different hat block? Or are you just referring to the...
