I think you're correct about the sun protection - the shadows on the faces tell the tale. I just now noticed the large number of human-pushed wicker cabs or rickshaws or whatever they are. Looks like a bunch of big babies in strollers on the boardwalk - but I guess you wouldn't get jostled as much.
Fair enough, although this has not been my experience. But we're seriously hijacking this thread, so I think we should be good FL citizens and mosey off and discuss this in another locale, preferably with a cold one at our elbows......
Cheers ;)
It's my opinion, based on personal experience, I thought that was implied. I find that Stetson Sovereign felt is thicker, softer and more malleable than the Akubra felts I've had. Even Royal quality Stetson I believe has a better feel. I agree that in the construction details, Akubra is...
Cool picture - I spy a couple of silk tophats in there, as well as some chauffeur-style caps. Check out the observer in the window in the extreme upper left....
IMHO, Stetson's felt is superior to a modern Akubra.
Why not pick up an Akubra Hampton/Whippet in a different color to complement your Saxon and add your opinion to the mix.
You could check the sale Skyvue mentioned at Jos. A. Bank - it's at Madison and 46th. The prices on the website are pretty remarkable at the moment - they have a nice looking DB seersucker suit in blue, and 3-button in a bunch of colors. They even have seersucker shorts, go figure!
Good grief, the Mercer is practically a Fez!
Seriously, though, the Saxon is generally considered stingy. In particular, it may seem less wide when wearing it in the winter with a coat. I've noticed my wider brims seems less wide when worn over an overcoat with wide shoulders. If you still...
Noggintops is having a sale on the Temple until June 14th, got the flyer today. The price is pretty good at $120:

I know you're looking for used, but I'm just sayin'.....
Living in NYC with the grownups, a fedora garners infrequent attention and few comments. I wear one because it looks good and I've been wearing them since the 70s. It's part of my habit, not a cry for attention. I see people in the city wearing fedora all the time. People say no more to them...
AXL it sounds like you had a great time. It goes without saying that we'd all like to see pictures of the work when it's done. Do you know the model name of their hat that you covet? There's a lot of nice lids on their website.
Mine has neither stretched nor shrunk. The pleather sweat doesn't seem to want to shrink even after several soakings. When new the hat is really stiff and will make a bit of a crunchy sound when flexed. I flexed and massaged mine all around until the crunchiness went away. Also, when mine...
Well that stinks - at least you noticed the damage before buying. Many moons ago I bought a really nice vintage DB jacket from an outdoor flea market in NYC. It was January and really freezing. I wore the jacket on the subway on the way out later that night. The subway car was blazing hot, and I...
Hi AXL, it sounds like you'll be giving W&W a try. For a ribbon idea, I have this older Milan straw Stetson that has a really nice striped thin ribbon. Sometimes a thin ribbon really looks right, IMO. These thumbnails are clickable:
PS that striped thin ribbon is brown, in case you can't...
I remember reading where someone just peeled the logo tag right off - it was stuck on with an adhesive, not even sewn - you might give it a gentle try. I agree that a logo on a hat is not appealing. I would go to great lengths to remove a tag like that.
David Morgan doesn't carry the Camp Draft. I don't know of any US vendors that carry the CD, which is somewhat mystifying, given its popularity (at least on the lounge). If the OP is talking about general vendors of Akubra lids, then David Morgan (lounge sponsor) and Noggintops are both good...
