Nice lid
The Baldwin is a nice looking lid, I've always liked it but was scared off by the return policy. I notice that Miller has dropped a lot of teardrop models lately - their OR clone, the Douglas, is gone.
The Stetson Brewster I had was very soft, and had a 2-1/2" brim with the standard...
Dynamo
It looks to me like a couple of engineers checking the tolerances on the shaft of a dynamo in a powerplant. Work shoes used in electrical areas commonly have thick insulating soles - supervising or operating engineers would probably wear a dress shoe version, whereas machinists or other...

Stetson Brewster Panama...
This hat is a Stetson hybrid, i.e. a western hat converted to a fedora. The conversion was done by Catalena Hatters, and has their liner and sweatband. The hat is unworn so the felt is somewhat stiff, and the hat would work well as an outdoor hat for fishing, hiking, etc. The color is bone, the...
I've got to agree with this - at least the Ashland-clone has an underwelt brim, so has something to distinguish it. Stetson makes the Chatham with a 2-3/4" brim for Bencraft, so it's obviously possible. And the Brewster shows that Stetson can put out a high-quality new hat.
There is a similar lid sold by a well-respected NY hatter:
This hat is shown elsewhere on the site on a female mannequin, so I assume they intend it as a woman's hat - women certainly enjoy more latitude with hat shape and style.
This Cav qualifies, but it might be too far gone, even for your purposes:

Egghead, what do you think about the Stylemaster? It's nice in Acorn Fawn, but it does have a matching ribbon and a 2-1/2" brim. I guess you realize a 2" brim is hard to find these days - I myself prefer 2-1/4" and they're a rare item.
PS the Christys hats have significantly more taper than...
Very cool
I guess it just makes good sense to wear a hat at high altitude, with the low temperature and high UV exposure.
It'd be very interesting to see pictures of the lining/label/sweatbands too.
Yeah, good idea. There's no point in forcing a city fedora into a western-style hat. There are several flat-brim Akubra hats that could be shaped to look like you want, not to mention the whole wide world of western hats to choose from...
Iron it
If a brim is unbound, like a Sydney, you should be able to iron it flat, a la DCI Foyle's hats. This stretches the outermost part of the brim, removing the snap. But be sure you want it flat, because you're not getting the snap back without re-flanging the brim yourself or having it...
NY Times a week ago ran a similar article - the boardwalk set itself is built on a vacant lot in Greenpoint with stacks of shipping containers surrounding it to hold the green screen for matteing in the ocean views later.
Oh man...
CaneRodMaker, I saw your name on the listing and thought it was going to be a true NOS size 7-3/4 Cavanagh, like the one I found in 1976! I guess lightning really doesn't strike twice.... Someone with the right size head has got to snap up this jewel!
Definitely a Downs, many vendors sell it (e.g. Village Hat Shop has it in stock in black).
Bencraft Hatters carries the Ashland, which is exactly the same as a Downs (and the same price), but with an underwelt brim. I have two and like them quite a bit, they are good everyday hats. I prefer a...
