This is my hiking and kayaking hat. If I still fly-fished, I would use it for that as well, as felt is too hot for me in the summer:
It's polystraw with a coolmax sweat, floats, has a wind cord, etc.
I think an Akubra Capricorn (also polystraw) would make a nice fly-fishing...

The Stetson Dune (from the Gun Club collection) would be a good choice for the uses you describe, although it would probably cost at least twice as much. An old friend used one for hiking and fishing and it worked really well and looked great.
I like welted
I think edge treatments can help avoid brim waviness as mentioned above. I plan to have a slightly wavy-brimmed Stetson bound as some others on the lounge have done already.
Of the hats I own, I prefer a welted edge, as my first hat was a Cavanagh and I really liked it. Aside...
That's an excellent choice. I had a Stylemaster in Acorn Fawn - that color will look good with navy. The brim width should be fine, as the hat has nice proportions overall. I was going to suggest the current Stetson color Tawny, as found on the Chatham or new Whippet, but they're almost twice...
I've always found the HST to be the most beautiful of Art's offerings. If you can sport the brim width (it's too wide for me), I think it would be the equal of all but the most perfect vintage OR specimens. Plus it has the pin and would have your initials in it - how perfect a birthday present...
Yep, my 2004 Mini Cooper with sunroof has plenty of space, granted I'm only 5'9". Also, the door opening is quite wide, so there's no contact with the frame when entering or exiting.
The real McCoy
Manhattan Wardrobe Supply sells adhesive-backed foam tape as well as non-adhesive felt strips in bulk:

There's a load of other hat accessories on this page as well - stretchers, hat rests, cleaning supplies, etc. If you're in...
I agree, the font & design look Jugendstil / Art Nouveau which would put it at the turn of the century or after, but probably pre-WWI. I really like this wacky hat...
Well the Chatham, Downs, Ashland, Hampton and the new Whippet are all exactly the same size and shape of crown, 4" to the center dent. That shape looks low on some, perfect on others (myself, for instance). The differences are felt quality, brim edge treatment, ribbon size and available colors...
A friend had a burglary interrupted at his apartment. The burglar left a similar calling card in the hallway. Cops said that junkies sometimes have to go right now when they get nervous - maybe that's what it was. The items assembled on the bed by the thief included all his cameras (new and...
Sovereign felt feels significantly softer than Royal felt, if that's what you like, so my Chatham has a more refined feel than my Ashlands (the Ashland is essentially a Downs with a underwelt brim, sold by Bencraft). My Chatham brim has rippled a bit from my neglect and I may have it bound. The...
Seersucker on sale at Syms
Try saying that ten times fast....
I was in Syms at Park and 54th in Manhattan - their Summer Bash sale started today and runs until July 5th. They have Haspel seersucker suits on sale for $89, jackets for $59. I think they're all 2 button with center vents, but I...

I posted this last year on another thread after perusing the OED for a while
Sennit is an interesting old word - it is a spelling variant of the source word 'sinnet'. From the Compact OED (without all the details):
sinnet - A nautical term of obscure origin. A kind of flat...
That hat looks even better close up, nice ribbon, etc. We cranially-enhanced types have to take what we can get sometimes, at least until the twice-a-century vintage treasure appears....
Scout felt hat stiffener, about 2/3 of the way down the page here:

and Noggintops has it too (and many others too, I'm sure):
