Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

Oh man, I wouldn't change a thing on the lid - it's a classic, and pretty rare, I believe.

Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

AXL, you're probably going to have to post pictures of the Stratoliner to get answers to your question. I (most?) would be very hesitant to modify a bona-fide vintage Stratoliner unless there was something wrong with it.

Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

Another vote for the original, dashing, thin ribbon.

    Panama Hat Thread

Looks pretty good Mr. E., I think you sold me, assuming I can get the brim to behave as well. How's the sizing on the XXL for 7-3/4?

Brown hat with a charcol grey or black suit

Charcoal gray and chocolate brown I would do in a NY minute, picture gray flannels and a nice rich brown leather belt or briefcase. Probably not black though, especially pinstripe, not sure why. A black ribbon on the hat might change that. Scion, you've got to try brown and blue together...

    I am in need

That's an excellent argument for the hats currently taking over the shelves of the closet - and a good comprehensible rejoinder to the puzzled inquiries of my wife who is not quite understanding the affliction. Thanks and welcome....

    seersucker suits

DC, there is tan seersucker as well - I've seen it around, although I'm not sure how prevalent it is. It's definitely more stealthy than blue, but no one blinks at seersucker in New York, of course. I agree with the light blue or white shirt when wearing a tie, anything with an open weave would...

    Stetson Retro Panama Straw Hat

Looking forward to the review. I never did pick up a Milan from the Hat Guys, simply because I already have one (duh...), but I don't have a Panama yet. I've never handled a straw with a wire in the brim - the reinforcement in the pinch looks interesting too.

    Did I get ripped off?

Re: the original purchase, it looks like a fair-enough price for the hat when you consider being able to handle it and try it on before buying. I do enjoy buying a hat in person, and don't mind paying a mild premium to do so. No one has asked yet, so I will - where is the shop on West 57th St...

    Caribou Gray

Yeah, the guys have it right above - it's a true medium gray, won't be anywhere close to carbon. It's a clever color, seems only gray, but definitely has brownish undertones, doesn't seem to have much blue, goes with a lot of different clothes. I find my Caribou Ashland to be a fine everyday...

Had a great style and hat day in New York City

I also wear 7-3/4, so have similar troubles. Every time I've been in JJ, the only hats he has in my size are the most expensive Borsalinos, which I don't crave. So no joy there for me. For W&W, you would have to order the size and style you want, so being there in person doesn't help much...

The nicest comment I ever heard

It's not the cabins themselves, the point is that the port-out and starboard-home cabins are situated away from the brutal tropical sun on the trip to India, and are therefore cooler. But these type of tickets apparently never existed, so it's academic.

The nicest comment I ever heard

That's a common theory, which is regrettably not true - it has legs as it is contained in the lyrics to a song in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', and does sound pretty convincing. In fact, acronyms were virtually non-existent prior to the 1930s or thereabouts, so stories attributing older words to...

    Lamentations of the Large-headed!

Ah, another 7-3/4, welcome to the lounge. In addition to the good suggestions above (including those rare, large-noggin vintage lids), don't forget modern Stetsons. I have several and they are nice hats, in spite of what many detractors may say. The new silk-finish Brewster is particularly nice...

Had a great style and hat day in New York City

Sounds like a good day in the big apple - FWIW I get shell-shock from $600 shoes and $5000 suits too. Then I go to Syms or Century 21 and get a decent suit for a discount. So what is the make and model of your first two hats? The 2nd one looks quite nice to me, a lot like a Stetson Hampton I...

    Post New Hats Here!

That's funny - last summer I happened to rent a white Dodge Charger for a road trip in the mountains north of Seattle and was wearing the hat below with the brim up and a dark green windbreaker most of the time. Wherever I drove, I caused a large number of people to spontaneously slow down to...
