This is what i meant by the "classic" collar comment. I'm not sure if this option in the build-a-shirt is actually spearpoint or just a narrowed collar you can still find in department stores
Hmm, should have done that before I wore them to school today (side note -- received many compliments). I have physical education tomorrow and generally reserve my nice clothes for days I don't have that, for convenience. Tomorrow, I'll clean the shoes and disinfect them.
I do have shoe trees...
It's a shame, the Lounge lost some great pictures. I find it actually infuriating looking at threads from, like, 2008, and all the participants are praising someone's photographs. I can only sit there thinking, "I wonder what this looked like..."
I'm too lazy to read through this thread, so this question has probably been asked-- Does Natty carry any spearpoint collar shirts, other than the pink-striped one on their gallery?
Yeah, I considered the previously mentioned idea of wearing an ivory jacket for day wear. However, my mind went straight to Rick Blaine's shawl lapel jacket, which I would think twice about wearing casually, since, though people couldn't care less about fashion rules now, people would still...
Well, i finally acquired the dream shoe! On a sunny day as well. Purchased these 1940s Nunn-Bush spectators from Johnny J on here-- wonderful guy.
The spade sole, the supple leather and suede, the insole-- were all spectators made like this in the day? I always perceived Nunn-Bush as a cheap...
Hahaha, thanks Bob. It's so easy to be infected by the vintage tie bug, since they're cheap (unless they're highly sought after pieces or there's the usual seller that thinks their tie is worth much more than it really is), versatile (it can be asserted that a lot of vintage is anachronistic...
Wholeheartedly agree with this. Can't people still be creative with black tie without looking stupid (boaters, homburgs, brocade waistcoats and the like, etc)? Why not go this route?
Definitely agree with this. I tune into the award shows occasionally, and can't help but notice the inherent deviation from traditional black tie. I've yet to even attend a prom, but have seen others don zany, wacky, unconventional garb in order to stand out. But the charm of black tie is the...
I suppose you're right about people not wanting to don black tie forcefully. I've heard that people will sometimes opt out of an event if it's black tie. A shame, really. There are also a plethora of tutorials on the internet--lack of knowledge is almost inexcusable, no?
Hopefully this is the appropriate section, a moderator may move this to Suits, if not.
I was hoping to canvass the Lounge's opinions, observations, gripes, etc with the way black tie is worn today. Now, as some may know, I'm likely the youngest member to grace the Lounge (someone may correct...
