Does anyone know for sure if there were recurrences of yesteryear's fashion even back in the day? I just can't imagine that people just stuck to what was vogue, even at the time, I imagine there must have been a classic trend like what's happening today.
Pictures would be great.
These pages are awesome and some great inspiration. To be honest, I expected more gaudy and bold ties being sported by the men, but that preconceived notion was quickly shattered.
Another great one. Wow, the 40s seemed to love red, brown and blue ties. Especially red and blue combined. Funny how 40s ties with more conservative patterns (polka-dot, stripes, foulard, etc) on ebay are virtually nonexistent, they're all swing or novelty ties. I'm guessing these have really...
Nah, I wasn't the owner. A guy sold this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-PALM-BEACH-White-1940s-2-Piece-Suit-Size-37/162981942244?hash=item25f27b13e4:g:NSwAAOSwVzRaxW53
A great suit in a size that's unprecedented for garments of this age. I would have grabbed it immediately if the shoulders...
I can definitely see the demand for Palm Beach suits from the 30's and 40's on the 'Bay. The one I showed caught 8 watchers and sold extremely quickly for $200. Shame too, but the shoulders would have fit me a bit snug, in hindsight, so the jacket probably would have only seen the light of day...
I have looked at several 1930's-40's shoe catalogs, and most shoes I'm seeing are marked $6-15, which means they were USUALLY much less than $200 adjusted for inflation. These are from popular American makers like Roblee, Nunn-Bush, Thom McAn, Bally, etc.
This jacket is currently listed on ebay right now: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F112877140397
For sale is a late 1940s Pinstriped blue DB suit jacket, labeled Spoo & Son. Measurements are as follow:
Chest: 40"
Sleeves: 24"
Shoulders: 17.75"...
Amazingly, I had never heard of Prada until this thread. From a quick Google search, yes, the exemplar presented by Scottrace would be over $500, for sure. I definitely see your point being made here. As with my recently purchased spectators, the difference is definitely there when compared to a...
I know the american shoe industry hasn't been good since the 1960s, but surely there are modern shoes that are below the horrific $950 example presented that are of decent quality? In comparison to vintage, probably not but decent?
I know the feel. I'm desperately trying to find vintage summer wear, more specifically a 30's-40's summer weight suit. Most of my nice clothes accommodate late fall/winter, sadly. Is this tweed suit of yours 1940s?
I immediately recognized the picture...Vintage Shoe Addict. The guy is like Timothiescloset, except he actually knows what he's selling. Fantastic shoes, that man has.
