Fit check: Freewheelers Mulholland

Got this Freewheelers Mulholland in size 42. I usually wear a 42 or 44 in Japanese brands, but this one runs small and measures closer to a 40 to 42.

It fits perfectly over a tshirt in the fall, but with winter coming, I’ve been trying it with my usual winter layers. It’s definitely snug, but not too unbearable. I’m mostly wondering if it looks too tight.

In most of the photos, I’m wearing a medium weight merino sweater and a really thick thermal underneath. In the second photo, I’m wearing a thick cotton shirt.

Personally love the jacket, but I might let it go if the fit looks off with thicker layers. What do you guys think? Keep it or let it go?

Yooooo another Masshole on here? :)

I recognize Brookline and maybe Beacon Hill.

Jacket looks tight with the turtleneck, but you're able to fit a button up under it and that looks good to me.

Looks thight with the turtle neck sweater around the biceps/arm hole. Maybe its has small arm holes.

Where does it feel thigh
It is just a bit snuggy overall, but the arm holes are the most restrictive, especially with the thermal and turtleneck. But I know freewheelers are notorious for really high arm holes so I accepted that it’s gonna be tight there. Just wonder if it looks bad

Yoooo, yes another Masshole here lmao.
They are indeed Brookline and Beacon Hill, I live right off Downtown Crossing Washington Steet though. I felt like I am the only one in Boston who is in the game lol. We can grab a beer and discuss heritage clothes sometime if you are also based in Boston lol

What’s your height n weight? Your US suit size?
6ft, 200-210lbs. I work out a lot so have gymer build but due to my smaller Asian frame, people normally guessed I am around 180lbs even though I am at least 200lbs. I am not into the suit game so only own one suit, and it was made to order, they got my measurements and made a suit accordingly, so there was no generic size tag.

As I mentioned, it feels a bit snug overall and quite restrictive around the armholes, though it’s not unbearable. I actually like how it feels, so just wanna see what other people think regarding how it looks. My only concern here is the appearance, not the comfort.

With your measurements, you need size 44. The jacket with the sweater looks too tight.

The chest looks tight when zipped (creasing's quite noticeable), but it looks fine unzipped and I bet it'd be fine with a t-shirt fit too. 44 would be ideal for layering but those seem to be pretty rare.
The comfort matters the most though imo and that'd be your call, I've had jackets that looked good but felt horrible and vice versa.

Looks ok worn open but a bit snug zipped up.

I have found this jacket to be rather comfortable when sized properly, so if you have a chance to size up one, I’d definitely check on that.

Its okay for some jackets to be tshirt jackets and some to be sweater jackets.
Agreed! That’s my experience with most jackets. The only exception is my Thedi car coat, it looks stunning with both a tshirt and a thick sweater. Thedorous must be a wizard!

I haven’t seen a size 44 for this one for a long time.

Yeah, couldn’t find a 44 anywhere for the last few years, the only time I saw a 44, it was marked 8000, just insane. This 42 is a steal. Part of the reason I think this one is not truely a 42, some measurements are smaller than what freewheelers published on their website. Freewheeling probably messed up the measurements a little bit for this 42.

When you said sizing it properly, did you size it for a tshirt or a thick sweater? And when you sized it properly, did it look good with both a tshirt and a sweater? I asked to manage my expectations

This over a tshirt. A touch snug but still quite comfortable and nowhere near the tightness when wearing it with a sweater

You are making a good point here. I usually size my jackets to be able to layer with a thin or medium weight sweater. I reserve my chunky pullovers for Overcoats or a Barbour.

Here’s my Mulholland over a T-Shirt and over a Pullover. I like it better with a layer, but due to the warm wool-lining, I think it’s more of a cool weather jacket anyway.

Wow thanks for sending the photos as reference!!! I can see you have plenty of space over a tee, it’s already a bit snug for me with a tee. How does it look when you zip up with a pullover underneath?

Those jeans are something!
Thanks! That pair of jeans is the Derrickman by Freewheelers. My most favorite so far despite I own jeans from all (or at least most) of the popular Japanese brands Samurai, Iron heart, momotaro, studio, pure blue,… Freewheelers’ design is really something else. I feel the same for the Mulholland, just that the fit is a bit too tight.
