I also visited Blue Blue Japan (uninteresting)…

and The Flat Head (uninterested - poor service)

But ended up going with Momotaro.

Black jeans dyed in a traditional way that kimonos were dyed in Kyoto. You’ll have to wait to see the jeans
IMG_4401.jpeg

I also happened upon a couple of places of interest.
Lewis Leathers (I’m sure they’re great jackets, but nothing much appealed)…
IMG_4378.jpeg

and a Japanese custom hat maker that I had heard things about…very disappointing. There’s any number of custom hat makers in the world who can match them price wise, but with far better workmanship.

I’m wearing a pair of Bronson 1950s jeans I got at the start of the year. The fit is awesome and the fabric is both soft and heavy- not a lot of texture or contrast, just a comfortable and solid denim. But the damn things just don’t fade! I’ve been wearing them three days a week for months now and nothing - just a little indigo loss each time I soak them.

I saw Redcast have a sale on and nearly ordered some TCB 50s jeans this morning. The denim looks a little more interesting and they may fade better. But the leg twist scares me so I’ll stubbornly persist with these.

I wish Bronson would do them big enough for me instead of stopping at the 38 I'll never be again. Dark indigo denim that doesn't fade is the *dream* for me.

I have a pair of persimmon-dyed SDAs and they are one of my favorite jeans. Also a big fan of their sashiko jackets.

Maiden voyage for some Gustin 604 Rainbow Nep Canvas:
20251017_114420.jpg

Lightweight at 12oz, but the dense weave of canvas gives them a sturdy, crisp feel. Polarizing concept with the natural base and multicolored Funfetti nep. I think they're fun, and they pair well with my Happy Socks. Bonus that my wife somewhat surprisingly really likes them.

I own other Gustin products, all secondhand, but this was my first time preordering to fund a project. Based on my experience I'm not sure I would do it again. I can't find any QC issues with my pair of pants, which I know is a somewhat recurring issue for Gustin, but the overall level of communication and transparency I found to be disingenuous and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Gustin Monster IndigoXBrown. Their new “Vintage Straight Fit” is quite different from the standard straight. Significantly higher rise with lots more room in the top block. I probably could’ve sized down one from the standard straight fit even with the 18oz weight.

Those look really nice! I got into Gustin back in their Kickstarter days, but lost interest when QC went downhill and the communications and wait times went south (about 7 years ago). Such a shame, since they have some amazing materials and good prices.

That’s awesome that they have a new fit! Definitely much needed. I may have to give them another shot. I just wish the opening was a little bigger for slip-on boots

Brand new IH-777 21 oz. After a few days in a row of wearing, to my surprise I prefer them to my IH-666.
The hem allows a boot friendly opening.
Honestly I didn’t expect a slim tapered cut to be so comfortable.
