Following up my own post with Nudie Jeans. I was at their shop, with sewing machines there on the side as they do free repairs forever.

I've bought two of their Lean Dean, one in their selvedge and one "normal" in black. So far, quite happy with the quality. I might still give a try to some other brands, specially if I ever decide to go for straight jeans... But when it comes to slim fits, I should now be served for life (or at least 5-10+ years) with their free repairs forever.

I think the reason to spend on high end denim is you love good clothing - attention to detail in construction, interesting fabrics or dyes. As someone else mentioned you can make mall jeans last ten plus years with some care.

I started buying higher end denim maybe 25 years ago. I’ve bought scores of pairs in that time and the truth (for me) is that tastes (my own) change, styles change, colors, my size - all kinds of things change over time so for me it was never a buy it for life mentality. It was and is a buy what is interesting/what you like and expect that to change - and learn to enjoy the change.
