Working from home today, so retreated into Dickies. What I'd call dungarees but I believe in the US you call "bib overalls". Very comfy. This is a pair I bought new in January for wearing after abdominal surgery... takes off a lot of pressure in the waist area with no belt, and can be worn a little looser at the waist than braces on regular jeans allow. Got my first pair as an adult (well.... in regular wardrobe that is. Also had a pair in my early 20s which were strictly Rocky Horror costume wear) about ten years ago and was surprised how much I wore them - and not only around the house as I'd initially assumed I'd limit them too. I've found them surprisingly practical for flying in.... Yes, the clips do mean you get The Wand or a frisk often, but it's so much less hassle than taking a belt on or off. Tried to subvert that with braces before now, only to discover that in some airports they obliged me to take those off same as a belt...

Chest pockets are wonderfully handy for carrying reading glasses, wallet, phone...

Finally a reprieve from the seemingly unending heat and humidity that has been this summer. A False Fall interlude has me rejoicing in a pair of ONI288ZR-BKBK today:

I went on a bit of a bottoms bender, so I've been patiently waiting to bust out some of the new duds.

I've got a pair of Iron Heart Overalls (or dungarees), and I would agree that they're comfortable. I haven't worn them for a while, and they're not compatible with the Antipodean summer.

I put in a pre-order for the Papa Nui and Rite Stuff Sailor Moku Pants, which are based on an early twentieth century work trouser, with naval specific tweaks.

They are available from The Rite Stuff (though a few sizes have sold out) and Papa Nui (who doesn't carry **L), and they should arrive in October. There's also a matching cap.

Be interesting to see how those look in the wild. Cut looks nice here. I like the pockets at that angle (which I've seen on some ww2 era field trousers); look very practical for normal trouser pocket use, but a touch less prone to anything falling out of them as can happen with more conventionally angled pockets. Sort of thing I'd prefer over western jeans as a default now.

Get yourself a pair and find out! (Aren't we all meant to be enablers here?)

I'll try to remember to post a picture of mine when they arrive. I'm a bit bored with the typical five-pocket jeans pattern, and these should be more interesting.

Heh, yeah.... Well outside of my budget these days, alas - even if they did have my size left. I'll never be smaller than one of their **Ls again, even if the Doctor does put me on the ozempic.

Studio D'Artisan Rain Kasuri (D1885):
20250907_105031.jpg

At 14oz, an easy wearing midweight denim. While it looks like Wabash, upon closer inspection it's actually created by using Kasuri threads only in the warp, allowing the weaver to craft irregular, broken straight lines that mimic the appearance of rain falling.

I also have the matching Type I jacket (D4589), but couldn't bring myself to go Canadian tuxedo.

Heat dome's building, so switching over to some Oni 022-HJS:

Lightweight at only 12oz, Oishi-san created the Harinuki Jacquard Stripe utilizing a drop-needle stitching technique. Another methodology that gives the appearance of Wabash from afar, but is not Wabash.
I bought these from Gustin earlier in the year. Fabric looks quite similar.. while the Gustin straight fit is not my favorite, I sure like the material.

Indeed, that does look remarkably similar if not the same! I love that the material has a subtle 3-D texture with the stripes slightly recessed against the indigo. The material is a dream to wear even when the weather gets warmer. The 022 cut is described as regular straight, so it provides a bit more room and breathability due to the low-tension weave.

I don't have any experience with Gustin's straight fit...yet. My 379 Persimmon and 482 Natural x Khaki Check are both slim fit. I didn't want all my pants to have the same profile so I've been branching out into wider cuts and higher rises lately. I backed their 604 Rainbow Nep campaign back in April and have been (im)patiently waiting for them all summer. Since it's canvas I figured a bit more room would be better so I decided to try the straight cut.

This is the first time I've backed one of their campaigns and I have to say I'm slightly disappointed with the experience. I was fully prepared for them to miss their delivery date based on Internet feedback, but in hindsight I wish I taken a screen capture to see by just how much. Prior to yesterday's production update, which had been the same for nearly three weeks, they were in Step 4/6: Sewing, and were supposed to start shipping now. Yesterday's update stated the jeans are still in sewing and the stage scheduled to be completed on 9/22, after which would be Finishing. So I don't see these shipping until October at the earliest, which I'm pretty sure is about two months after the August timeframe that I seem to remember when I placed my order. C'est la vie...

Yeah, I’m too impatient to wait for anything, so I grab from stock when I see it. Frustrating! Their straight fit is fine if I size up in the waist, otherwise, it’s somewhat restrictive for my “bits”. Their newer Vintage straight fit looks to allow for some extra room in the top block while bringing the rise up an inch or so.

Today I was wearing, and I’ve been wearing them quite often lately, my Samurai S710SC Kinari selvedge jeans.
Probably the best jeans I’ve ever had.
I like their cut, the slubby fabric, the ecru nuance. (Picture not mine - from Samurai site)

That’s cool. Their ‘straight fit’ look decidedly low-rise and skinny fit on me.

I’m wearing a pair of Bronson 1950s jeans I got at the start of the year. The fit is awesome and the fabric is both soft and heavy- not a lot of texture or contrast, just a comfortable and solid denim. But the damn things just don’t fade! I’ve been wearing them three days a week for months now and nothing - just a little indigo loss each time I soak them.

I saw Redcast have a sale on and nearly ordered some TCB 50s jeans this morning. The denim looks a little more interesting and they may fade better. But the leg twist scares me so I’ll stubbornly persist with these.

Same as almost always. Indigofera’s Kain in ***powder black. The perfect pair of jeans for me. Just a shame they cost so much, though.

Oooooooo, timely! I’m planning to order a blue pair tomorrow. I like the high rise and good leg opening for wearing with engineer boots - without the legs being super baggy and shapeless. I just have to recheck the measurements when I get home tonight to make sure the thighs will be roomy enough for me
