3.5oz FQHH! I don't like his thicker hides, tried one 4.0oz on a suburban, moved it after a few months. My favorite is his 3.0oz fqhh though, on my lightning sample
In preparation for a potential purchase next year, I am exploring the LW Ryder - but in a 3 to 3.5 oz HH. No more FQHH for me as well.

I'd also modify the back to look like the Suburban, by removing the half belt. I remember seeing that the inner pocket has a snap button closure which I would also not include.

I will search more on this forum, but there doesn't seem to be many good pics of the Ryder from the back. This piece in a lightweight HH has 99% of the details I'd seek, even closer to my Grail than the Highway Star (missing a front chest pocket, hem is larger than the chest, etc.).

Just wanna say that the hem isn’t larger than the chest on the highway star, it’s definitely smaller, the main issue is the bottom of the belt (hem) flairs out from the top of the belt, which is the slimmest part on the jacket body, but if you massage the sides, make a fold, and move the side tabs to the second button you get a straight to slightly narrower hem, which completely changes the fit on the jacket imho.

Thanks for the observation - could that be a design flaw? Seems like a measure of work just to get the jacket to look properly, effort not needed with other jackets, certainly not the LW Ryder that is on my radar.

Finally getting down into the low 60s for me so I'm happy the jackets are coming back out. I've been wearing my At Last Co wool jacket at least until it gets into the 50s.

This is tough to answer because idk what they had in mind as fit and target market when it was designed.

On one hand you can say that for some body types the original design is better suited than a traditional V or linearly tapered to hem shape, it’s almost like the original design has a halfbelt body shape, where it’s slightly taken-in at the belt then the skirt flairs out a bit towards the hem, this works on body types with big hips but slimmer waists for example.

Otoh, the fact that it has a second button position at the hem but the joint seem of the belt to the body has no expansion/suppression is kind of a misstep imho, maybe it was intentional and in fact the second button is merely decorative, but I don’t think that’s the case because the rest of the belt does have a cut along the sides to overlap, it’s basically constructed like an adjustable leather cuff, where it naturally sits on the first button but there’s a second one that’s almost impossible to reach unless you massage and fold the area where the sleeve joins the cuff.

The good thing is that the leather on it is so malleable there’s really minimal massaging to do, it almost wants to fold by itself once you place it on the second button, if it wasn’t for the 4 panel joint seem caught in between it probably would.
