Just traded my Cal with @unhatted . His was too small and mine was a bit big so we swapped and I couldn't be happier! This feels like the perfect fit and has a beautiful tea core. It's a 70s model with an action back but it still feels super heavy and stiff and it still has all its original belt loops. View attachment 818850
So glad this worked out! Hoping for a similar result but mine currently stuck in a kafkaesque parcelforce failed delivery loop—fingers crossed will be able to update soon

In the meantime a jacket that is everything the forum taught me not to like—a lambskin fashion Schott that could never be worn for riding. So wearable though, and my ‘smartest’ jacket due to the minimalist styling, longer body and shorter sleeves.

Schott Raven P213 stripped down blackout perfecto, bought for a song on Vinted. Definitely wouldn’t pay what Schott charge but I’m happy!

How does one wear these western shirts? Regardless of color, when/why/how/where do you wear one? Is it more like a jacket or an over-shirt? Or a mid layer? Would you put a leather jacket on top of it?
I wear it like I’d wear a heavy iron heart flannel. Sometimes open over a tshirt or long sleeve t. Sometimes buttoned up.

3.5oz FQHH! I don't like his thicker hides, tried one on a suburban, moved it after a few months. My favorite is his 3.0oz fqhh though, on my lightning sample
If he was easier to deal with I'd order a Ryder with several modifications like:

- the Suburban back as I prefer a single piece back
- no half-belt on the back, and a flat shoulder line like the Suburban
- a cotton lining, satin sleeves
- 3 oz FQHH, etc.

but have heard all the issues and prefer not to deal with them. Maybe I am mistaken and they are flexible given that these are simple mods.

Stu will be able/willing to perfectly do all these mods... For a price

At $1,850 plus several hundred more for these mods as you mention, then I'd have to add another ~9% in sales tax, it is just not a reasonable proposition. Even the Japanese makers are considerably less.
As far as I know, the top flight Japanese makers aren’t doing custom for that price. Comps aren’t that far from a custom Thedi, less than Himel. More than a custom Aero, certainly, but then again it’s Stewart himself making your jacket.

I looked at the Y2 site and their single rider jacket (HVR-42) IIRC was about $1200 plus tariffs and duties.

All in for LW would come to $2,500 or so to get the jacket to conform to the specs I'd want, plus tax which would put the total cost about $2,700. That's $1,850 > $2,250 with a red wool lining > ~$2500 for my mods + tax, or about $1,000 more. I'd have to check again but there were some retailers stateside that carried the HVR-42 and would cover some of the duty costs. The only real answer is to call Stewart and speak to him about it; the mods I seek might be considered a simplification of the jacket pattern.

But I am getting ahead of myself as I am closing in on another Schott in the meantime, a LW or Y2 is a 2027 purchase at the earliest.

Well that absolutely worked out!

I feel like a many-year quest is over—as well as being the best fit I could hope for it ticks every customisation preference I have, except that I slightly prefer o-ring zip pulls over teardrop. But given the plain back, no epaulettes and above all the FIT, I can live with those! Some might say based on photos that the one I traded fit me better, but ultimately, I love to be able to move my arms and breathe in comfortably, and this is absolutely as good as it gets!*

Stu notoriously charges even simplification mods, unfortunately. As you said, maybe you can try discussing with the man.

I’m interested in trying a Schott lambskin. Unfortunately the local Schott store closed.

I have found him very easy to work with. His emails are short and direct. I think some people intepret that as unfriendly. He definitely won’t use a smiley emoji.
