Yes, they do look almost the same from the front. The dimensions are almost exactly the same too. But they feel like two very different jackets when I wear them. The JL is the obvious keeper but the 5Star cost less. The money is in the pattern block.

Sears Fieldmaster steerhide with pile lining. First introduced in the 1959 catalog and shown with an Oakbrook label in the early 60s. These were sold in horsehide and steerhide made by Appalachian Tanned and Tailored. Very boxy fit. I've owned 6 or 7 and have another coming in the mail.

I love the way natural hides develop. I made a belt 30 years ago from natural butt leather , tried it on recently -too small ! but it still looks awesome. So I made one that fits but doubt I've got 30 years left to see it reach the same level . Now I'm on the lookout for a 38 jacket in natural that I like the look of . Your's is coming along nicely @MrProper
