Nice.

Here is an interesting Taubers question. Has anyone seen one with anything other than a Horsehide label? I just realized that I'm not aware of them putting other leather labels on their jackets. I just got a 70s orange label Taubers and always think of them as cowhide though they are not marked?

Yes, the size 40 cafe racer I bought on ebay and sold because it was too tight in the chest had this label. Too bad, because the jacket was like NOS. The only problem with it was that the sleeve kissed the blacktop at some point but it just added to the character.

The earlier Taubers labels have Horsehide integrated in the label. Not an extra label with the leather type like many makers used. Buco has a steer or horse to indicate these icons were placed in the label.

I don't recall ever seeing a Taubers label with anything other than Horsehide.

The orange labels do not have a leather tag that I've seen.

My understanding, inferred from the Tanaka book, is that Taubers was making all their jackets with horsehide up until around 1966. Then when they switched their label to the orange version in the late 60's, they started using cowhide.

Yes, that makes sense now. Taubers just used horsehide until the orange label turned to cowhide. I just realized this. Makes Taubers even more interesting.

That's what I thought...late 60s/early 70s swap to cowhide that pretty much coincided with the new label. I have a another leather jacket book, Lightning Archives Leather Jacket, coming from Japan. Looks interesting.

The revised edition? Worth keeping. Entire magazine filled with photos of vintage jackets and quite a bargain compared to Rin Tanaka's hardback books though the hardback have more details.
