What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

I've been quite sparing with the cigar smoking lately as the summer house is pretty cold out there---especially since I ran out of firewood a few days ago. ;)
Last Wednesday it was my friend and I with two two Topper Danlis. Not a bad cheap cigar made from Camacho cuttings. :D The thing can get a little spongy at the end if you are the type to chomp cigars though. My friend cut off the end again and kept going though. lol lol
With a sampling of McClellands highlands and speysides. Throwing in a Rittenhouse and The Speyside for good measure. I think my head hurt the next day but I don't remember. :p ;)

BtW - McClelland's is a perfectly fine inexpensive scotch, and I enjoy the Speyside, Lowland, and Highland varieties (in that order), and usually keep a bottle (or so) of each on hand.

As usual, hold the Islay... *yucky*

A Fuente Anejo before supper

Wait, wait, wait.

Stop.

Questions that demand answers:

1. What size Añejo?

2. BEFORE dinner?!? Are you insane, man?!?

Personally, I find Añejos to be quite potent, as they are basically an Opus X in a maduro wrapper. When it comes to cigars, I prefer a full-bodied, heavy smoke. I have smoked cigars since 1987 (freshman college). I have smoked REAL cigars since 1993 or so. I humbly consider myself to be a sophisticated perveyor of fine, hand-crafted tobacco products. Even so, I freely admit that I am not nearly man enough to handle an Añejo BEFORE a meal!

What's your secret, dude?

An iron stomach/constitution?

An extra helping of testoterone?

What, man?

WHAT?!?

Do tell, my good fellow. Do tell. :D

Last night I went for a Man o war torpedo. I am a little disappointed in these. Fairly well made but too light for me. These were recommended to me by a good friend so I thought I'd give them a go. I keep waiting on a nice finish but always come up empty. Not a particularly interesting smoke. Combined with some Basil Hayden helped some but it is generally a bad sign if my smoke requires good whiskey to complete the experience. The whiskey should be an enhancer, not a requirement. [huh]

Today, from one of the attorneys for whom I work, I received as a Christmas present a bottle of Bunnahabhain Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky, Aged 18 Years. I had a sampling earlier this evening. I am having a tad more with my cigar.

On the matter of Islay scotch, I humbly stand corrected - in this instance, at any rate. As a beverage, it is, as Nero Wolfe would put it, "Satisfactory."

Cuban Cigar or London Tobacconist Recommendation?

I find myself in London over the holidays.
Can anyone recommend a tobacconist who could
be trusted to recommend a Cuban cigar worth purchasing?
Got a favorite cigar to recommend?
Keep in mind I'm a cheapskate when it comes to cigars.

I used to like Montecristos a lot, but when I
was in Japan last year I was not impressed.

Thanks for any hints! I'll post here when I smoke it.

(if only it weren't illegal to bring them to San Leandro, JP)

Last night I went with a sancho panza double maduro churchill for lunch and a gurka double maduro for my evening smoke. Was having a double maduro day! Today I went with one of my favorites, a Fuente Hemingway signature for the afternoon and a black partagas pirimide with some Blantons/rocks for the evening smoke. Merry Christmas all!

Feltfan,
Sorry about that! There is a location listed as Casa Del Habano, but it's a dead link.
This is the location, their address is at the bottom of the page.

Actually, I happened to walk by it. I also happened to walk by
JJ Fox and Davidoff. I have been doing a LOT of walking. Problem is,
nothing is open x-mas and Boxing Day. But tomorrow I figure
everything is open.

So the question is, is it worth the expense? Which cigars are
so good I should splurge a bit for a Cuban? We get some awfully
good and affordable cigars using Dominican, Nicaraguan, etc tobacco
in the states. Specific recommendations for good values would be
appreciated. Otherwise I'll go to JJ Fox if I get a chance and ask for
recommendations.

Thanks again.
