not bad but not Islay

I don't know whether to be impressed or disgusted (or both) by this statement. Out of the 6 scotch drinkers in my "inner circle" not a one (including myself) likes Islay. I don't know how you do it. Highland, Speyside, or even Lowland for us.

I don't know what to tell you. I drank strictly Irish for several years-Jameson 12, Redbreast when I could get it, and John Powers (best copper still taste to me). I still like those but gravitated to scotch 15 or so years ago. Lowland is too flavorless to me, almost no peat or smoke detectable. Speyside has a nice soft flavor with some of each and Highland is nice as the peaty, smoky flavors grow. The strength and character of the Islay malts however, are just superb. You can almost taste the sea in Laphroig and Lagavulin. Bowmore is medium by Islay standards but plenty full flavored compared to inland malts. The lightest of the Islay malts are Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich and except for the phenolic vein which runs through all of the Islay malts, they might be the most palatable to you.

Then again, the less Islay you drink, the more there is for me!!!

Had my last ISOM Cohiba yesterday afternoon while putting up the lights outside.

I can't believe I left out the Ardbeg in the above post!

My cabinet currently holds:

Laphroig
Ardbeg
Bowmore
Bruichladdich
Talisker
Aberfeldy
Glen Moray
Lismore
Tamdu
Glenrothes

I like variety but gravitate back to Islay every time.:eek:fftopic: Sorry.

Maduro, Kermez. Love em. I am partial to Maduros although I will gladly smoke regular signatures. The hemingway series is just great. I have seen from some of your past posts that you like them as well. Clearly you are a man of taste. Last night I went with a Gurka Estate Shaggy w/ a little Jefferson's Reserve/rocks.

I try. Right back at you.

A very rare night tonight; too blasted busy for a cigar! I am officially grumpy. I am having an extra scotch before bed to make up for it. Opened a new bottle of Lismore Single Malt (Speyside...I don't always drink/smoke heavy flavors). Never had that before; not bad but not Islay.

Lismore is a fine scotch for a flavorful cigar. You'll get used to it. ;) :p

I like Dalwhinnie too but I don't keep any because it is hard to find up here. I would probably enjoy the Lismore with a good cigar more than without. Don't get me wrong, I won't get rid of it except in the time-honored fashion! :cheers1:
