Resistol Ft. Worth Western - "Golden Beaver 50"

This Resistol "Golden Beaver 50" has a year code for 1974 on the sales label. The felt in this is very nice... not as stiff or as smoothly pounced as a Stetson 7X, but moldable and light in weight. Has a soft finish and liner seam detail reminiscent of a Stetson 25. All in all, a nice quality 1970s hat:

Alan, thanks for your post, maybe helping me date the Cutter Bill Beaver 50 per my post 221 back on page 23. My liner is the same as yours, but my sweatband just has a solid gold line across the top, not the design that yours has. My liner is stitched in - yours may be also, or maybe you can detect if it was stitched in at one point. My post also included a pic showing the original production tag down behind the sweatband at the back, maybe there are some similarities there. Mine shows a 9-digit code (3 digits, a space, and 6 more digits) and the size, that's all.

Thanks for the reminder... went back to look at your hat again. The liner is stitched in mine as well. Not sure how the two compare agewise. It does seem that Resistol maintained their felt standards into the seventies while other manufacturers had a drop off in quality at that time.

Thanks - I believe both Resistol and Stetson (as produced by Stevens) produced fairly good felt through the 1970s. I think the sharp deterioration in quality was in the 1980s - the Borsalino family sold out in 1984 also. Demand for hats just fell off of a cliff about that time and the manufacturers went into some really tough times, I think.

I am REALLY impressed that Resistol was still stitching in the liners in 1974 - I did not expect that! I just presumed that tacking in the liners with thread went out the door with the Cav edges, and I thought the Cav edges went out the door in the 1960s. Maybe someone will step in and correct me on that, but I certainly have not run into any Cav edges that I thought were produced in the 1970s or later.

Just in time for summer, I pulled this Resistol straw out of a Salvation army store this afternoon, cost me 3 bucks :

Anyone have any idea on vintage? also, it has a little pinch from being mashed a little, can this be steamed out like on a felt hat? (it's my my first straw)

EDIT: steam, just like felt. Almost easier actually. Hit it with a little steam, gave it a little shaping, repeat until complete.

Wow! That Sky Fleet is a beautiful fedora! Do you mind sharing the particulars of that hat rlk? Brim width, ribbon etc.
Thanks to all for the kind remarks. The brim is 2-1/2". The crown is about 4-1/4" at the front pinch and 5-3/8" open. The ribbon is 13/16" wide.

Cool hat, RLK. This liner looks the same. Interestingly, the logos colors are negatives.

Finally found the pics of my Resistol "Pace-Setter" a really comfortable hat in that silvery gray color. Normally I always remove the feather if there is one in a hat, they always look beat up. but the Resistols seem to have nice feathers so I leave them in.

I feel the quality of Resistol hats is equal to or superior to any other on the market and just as stylish.

Eric, I really like your hat. The silver gray "Pace-Setter" would wear well in either dressy blazer or casual occasions. I really like that hat and the Sky Fleet. I am now on the lookout for one. Thanks for sharing, Another Eric -
