As boys growing up we all just used Dad's Old Spice... then there was the year Mom got all of us a small bottle of Brut by Faberge. There were odd bottles of Musk of one sort or another over the years, too.

I've tried Xeryus because a girl friend liked it; gave it to my son after she dumped me, the ignorant (*)*^%&. Got a bottle of Cigar Aficionado cologne for Christmas from an aunt that was actually pretty good, but never got as many unsolicited compliments than when I wore Hugo.

It's been forever since I bought any cologne and have to look up the scents you guys are posting. An old dog looking at new tricks, so to speak.

Since I’ve moved from Florida to Nevada I’ve started reaching more for Havana by Aramis, Polo Green/Safari, Versace Dylan Blue, and Tom Ford Black Orchid. The heat is ridiculous but never feels too hot since there’s no humidity but the cold is ridiculous as well, so I’ll probably get to wear Opium more often.

You cannot go far wrong with Old Spice, but there's more exciting stuff out there to try. Brut Faberge is one of them, but as with all things fragrance it all depends very much on your own body-odour. I ended up smelling like one of those soapy things they put into urinals.

As I love citrus fragrances I tried a couple and ended up ansolutely loving Myrsol Agua de Limon (mentholated lemon after shave), and many of the relatively cheap citrus-flavoured colognes you can get cheaply at Turkish super-markets in Germany. But Myrsol most of all.

I am partial to Penhaligon Sartorial. There is not a scent of theirs that I don't like!

If you would ask me, what scent it today represents, I would say, it's good old (dry) pinewood, in the first place.

I'm fascinated that Old Spice is considered wearable. When I grew up and well into the 1990's Old Spice was viewed as the aftershave an unthinking slob would view as acceptable. A lazy, mainstream and child-like choice you'd pick up at the supermarket. Hannibal Lector even makes fun of Old Spice in Red Dragon.

I personally don't wear aftershave or any kind of cologne.

But, I was again astonished how liquid the formula is. It's more like water than lotion. Of course, no usual "Hydrogenated Castor-Oil" include.

I've been using Clubman Pinaud Classic aftershave and another aftershave by Stirling called "Sharp Dressed Man."

Colognes: Recently I bought a bottle of the new formulation of Brut Splash-On. Smells great but it doesn't last long on me. I alternate between Clubman's Special Reserve AS/cologne, and a spray-on from Wholly Kaw called "Project Leather."
