Buying pants in the middle of weight loss + Railcar alterations

Anyone who's been in a similar situation care to share their experiences with eyeballing and guesstimating their sizing? I know the normal, smart thing to do would be to simply wait until hitting your weight goal but there are some specific pairs that might end up going out of stock.

I'm currently 5'7 162 lbs (down from 200lbs after 6 months and can now fit in size 38/40 jackets) with a waist that measures ~36''. My Flat Head 3004 jeans sized 36 (closer to 34) now start sliding from my waist above the belly button to the higher end of my hips without a belt. Even with a, belt a slight jog or straightened poster will get them to slide a bit because I also need smaller belts now. Size 32 chinos are tight, but doable.

Mainly looking to get some pairs that will work both now and after another 10-20 lbs of weight lost. I assume bulking a bit afterwards won't change much. Maybe even these size 32s might end up feeling a bit loose. Of course everyone has different bodies that lose fat differently, but I'm still curious how it went for people here who've been in a similar situation.

Also, has anyone here had the waist of their jeans downsized/upsized by Railcar Fine Goods? How are they?

I don't think there is a way to accurately predict your size after weight loss or how long that journey might take. Probably best to just wait until you are at your desired weight before buying anything new, and especially anything that is expensive.

Unfortunately I have past experience of buying trousers in a size to which I aspired; I'm in the process of beginning to dig them out and put them on eBay. Nowadays I avoid buying trousers that I can't currently wear. I can always wear a size up from what I am either with braces or, in most cases, only minor bunching with a belt. Trousers that cost enough for it to be worth the spend can usually be successfully taken down in the waist by 2"; any more than that, and it can distort the shape and things like pocket placement badly.
