Is this horsehide? Schott leather type mislabelled?

Hi all,

So i recently got an almost new Schott 613 from someone on ebay at a good price because they had cut the belt and loops off & wanted a quick sale.. Its definitely real, authenticated by ebay also.

The labels indicate it is steerhide but to me it looks nothing like the other steerhide jackets and steerhide perfectos I've had and the leather seems much closer to a horsehide lewis leathers I had previously.

Looking at the shine and grain already is at all it possible this could be a horsehide version that has been mislabelled ? Or is this just how the new schott 613 steerhide looks at the start? The grain and shine looks totally different to me to other steerhides I've seen.

(Also one sleeve is more creased than the other but guessing this is down to how they may have stored it, can tell it has barely been worn so far.).

Pebble grain looks steer/cow. Correctly labeled imo

With the possible exception of one small spot in the next to last image, there is nothing in the images that look like horsehide to me. However, many of the experts will tell you the two hides are indistinguishable to the naked eye.

I think this jacket is properly labeled.

I have a newer 613. It too has some horsey looking grain and color but definitely wears like steer

Ah great thanks for all the responses everyone.. it was the shine that was throwing me off too and makes it look so similar to my LL horsehide but I am only comparing to older schott steerhides to be fair.

you are basically looking at a layer of pigment and potentially some kinda plasticish topcoat

going by the shine is like trying to determine if a car is steel or aluminum by looking at the paint.

Fair enough. As mentioned i was just going off the comparison of other horsehide & steerhides I've had. I've never seen the steerhide ones with a shine, they seemed to start off duller.
