Got my latest Schott creation, the 121 Type III in medium weight cowhide, a leather jacket style I've liked for some time. Schott has 3 jackets in this family, the 121, P620H and the gorgeous P622H. Those last two are Type IIs in horsehide, which I still want to get a jacket in, but they were either a shiny finish (P620H) or really heavyweight (P622H).
I do suggest anyone who is open to wearing a heavier jacket to strongly consider the P622H, the burgundy is one of the most gorgeous jackets/hides I've ever seen. It's a Horween horsehide product which looks like brown in a darker room, and a rich, muted Burgundy in bright light. One of the best jackets I've ever seen, and who knows, I might just pick it up one day. There's always the factory sale...
Anyway, the 121 is definitely a slim-fitting pattern, and I measured the jacket once I brought it home to see how it compares to the listed specs on the Schott site, as well as my other Schotts, and it is a bit different. The chest is 23.5 inches when I normally prefer 24" - the measurement listed on the website for a large is actually 24.25" - but it works. The hide used for the 121 is amongst the stiffest I've seen from Schott, and I really look forward to seeing it soften over time. My other 4 Schotts are much softer and more pliable. I definitely cannot layer a thick sweater underneath the 121 as of now, but I expected to primarily wear the jacket open with a t-shirt only, or a t-shirt and a button down most of the time anyway. I really like the jacket, and while it is 4+ pounds it carriers lighter than that. Highly recommended.
