Hartmann Leather jacket - Eastman (2nd hand) vs Crush on Retro

Hi,

I've wanted to buy a Hartmann jacket for quite some time now. There is a 2nd hand Eastman listed in decent condition, with some creases at the front but nothing major. Or a new Crush on Retro in black horsehide? I haven't had any experience with the Chinese made leather jackets and I couldn't find any information on this specific one here - are they comparable in quality to an Eastman for 1/2 of the price?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I appreciate Chinese jackets, but if you're sure you like this style, you can get a reputable brand for a good price, that should be better all around, retain sale value and, perhaps, close to the price of the Chinese, it is a no brainer. I would go for the Eastman, specially if it is not that far up in price. Oh, and the creases are something I would disregard, that will happen eventually (aka in a few wears) regardless.

That Eastman jacket is in almost unworn condition, if the price is good, it is an absolute no-brainer..

Something not readily important but is very important when you buy something sight unseen and you have not personally tried on, is if it doesn’t fit, whether you can re-sale it. It’ll be much much harder to sell a Chinese made jacket here on this forum than a more well known and reputable brand.

I would buy the Eastman

This is true. As long as the Eastman is reasonably priced in the current market, it could likely be sold on without any real financial loss.

In the OP's shoes, I'd also be thinking about whether you want to buy a *new* jacket in this Hartmann style, or whether it was specifically always an Eastman you wanted, but couldn't quite afford.... if that's the case, a "real" Eastman at the same price, used, looks like a better deal than what would then be the "compromise" alternative new.

Personal choice: they are, after all, both copies of the original, but the Eastman looks the better bet within those parameters.

I got a Hartman from noble house in Germany but it was not an accurate repro. Eastman have the best repro

I ordered the Crush on Retro - I think it is a Jiashi. I plan to write a review versus - eastman, authentic WW2 french bi-cycle version and 5-star.

Also I find the Eastman way too long in the body. I ordered a custom From 5-Star and I think it’s to long as well . Hopefully the Jiashi is cropped enough

I have two Hartmanns from Tailor Brando (brown cowhide and black Horsehide). Bought them via Aliexpress.
The tailor-quality is very good and the Details are not far from tho original. The only downsize ist the buckle, which does not match the original.

I love the Hartmann jacket, but haven’t brought myself to pull the trigger on one yet. The devil is in the details on this one, the buckle is such a nice detail, it’s a must have on a repro. I saw one made by John Chapman that looked absolutely stunning.
I’ve heard the complaint that the Eastman pattern is inaccurate, as these are very short jackets originally. Has anyone compared an Eastman to an original?
