Fit check: FCL Eric Jacket

It looks totally fine for an otr fit. There are a lot of people with an axe to grind on FCL, and a lot of people who think the only good fit is a super V cut short jacket.

Yeah no I don’t have an axe to grind but I expected this comment.

I actually don’t think short v taper jackets are the only good or flattering fits. I think that suits certain types but it’s not even my favorite type.

for the US it looks like they lengthened it and maybe added a little hip flare (hard to tell with it laying flat).

Imo the shoulders, sleeves, and chest fit you basically perfect. the hips have some room, but it's not egregious it's just some room. Unless they have a Luigi Mangione body, everyone's waist is smaller than their hips and longer jackets have to accommodate that.

You can see on the model he def has room around the waist, may be a style thing or may be to accommodate more people who aren't 10% bodyfat.

I like hip flare on a lot of jackets. I just don’t think it works here. Yours looks a lot better.

No, you’re correct it’s not uncomfortable, it’s just a bit difficult to put my hands in my pockets but again, not a deal breaker for me.

It's not terrible, it is on the longer side for my own personal taste, but not terrible. I am being overly critical of the Eric mainly because of the $2k price tag, and I am bias using shorter jackets as benchmark. But unless you found another jacket that is for sure better you've done well with this one (Eric). Just wear it until you find your next love. Maybe try a shorter jacket to see if you like it, <25" back length but with the same front length as your Eric, I think your Eric has about 22.5"-23" zipper length.

The difficulties of the pockets is because they're further back and straight up, but jackets marketed as riders have pockets like this. Sports jacket type jackets may have hand warmers that are more slanted for the purpose of hand warming. Your jacket Eric hand pockets are mostly for storage first and hand warming second.

I'm not a Fine Creek fan myself by any means but I have to admit, this jacket looks quite good on the OP. In fact, this is one of the best fitting FCL jackets I've ever seen.

Personally I'd still return it though because I know how the leather is going to age, it's going to look shabby within a year or two. But that's just personal preference as I strongly dislike fast wearing 'teacore' leathers.

but when Stu puts out the same fit in a Ryder everyone lines up to say he's the best ever.

To be fair, Ryder has half belt design and you could adjust the taper to some extent.
But it definitely doesn't have such a prominent ) ( shape that's visible on the FCL, although the Ryder reaches my hips

I LOL’ed at the Luigi Mangione mention.

I’m actually quite fit and into lifting so my chest is a good amount bigger than my waist, which made me not initially like the hip flare.

After thinking about it more, I think the hip flare adds an interesting touch, especially if you play around with the bottoms (see below)

to me this pattern looks worse than the eric at least on this guy. Too much chest room, giant 90s balloon sleeves.

for boxy or flared jackets I like when they get a flatter, wider looking drape like this motor. I think your Eric could get there with some break in.

The bottoms on the first pic are paired perfectly for the jacket too. I think there’s a good amount of leeway on what constitutes a solid fit but I’m also just assuming my opinions from other types of clothes transfer over to leather jackets…

I get what you mean - I’ve had that dent in the elbow on a lot of jackets as well. It does conform to the body of the wearer in that sense. A person with the elbow at a different position would not have the sleeve dent in the same spot. But what I mean is that I’ve never experienced an uncomfortable jacket becoming comfortable by breaking in. If it’s uncomfortable from the beginning, it will stay uncomfortable with only very marginal difference being made by breaking it in. When you’re talking about drape - that to me is an aesthetic difference rather than a comfort difference.
