I started working on a 120G FEPSA bone color pure beaver yesterday, blocked for 7 1/4" hat size with a open crown of 5.5" to start with. I am still working out the details to this creation, so far I am thinking about a soft tan color leather sweatband and a 1.5" wide hat band made with lite to medium color brown, blue or gold satin liner with a 2 7/8" or 3" wide brim, flat or 1/2" pencil curl. This one is another hat that is not being made for someone, just something to keep me busy working, thinking and trying something new.

Where did you get the 120gr FEPSA beaver? Tim stocks 95gr in beaver and 120gr in rabbit.

I made a hat for my wife, it is almost finished, I still need to put a pencil curl in the brim. The color of the felt is a tan, the satin liner is white, the hat band is 1 1/2" wide grosgrain ribbon in a wine color, the telescope crown is 4" high and the brim is 3 1/8" wide, the 2" wide leather sweatband is a medium brown color, hat size is 7 1/8", I plan to put a 3/8" or 1/2" pencil curl in the brim, something that will give the brim a little strength and if she wants to, she can give the brim a slight turn down in front. This is the hat that she wanted me to make for her, here is a few photos of the hat for you to look at. It is a gambler style which is fitting since she use to deal black jack on one of the river boat casinos in Indiana. Let me know how it looks? View attachment 617768

Every detail requires attention, patience and precision, especially when it comes to elements such as curves and lining. The wine-colored band goes well with the warm shade of the felt, and the shape gives the hat style and character. This is exactly the kind of hat I imagine for a trip to the casino, although I have never been there. I am just starting to learn about this industry about roulette simulator based on the review. It is very cool that it was made at the request of the wife - it makes it even more special. With the addition of a pencil curve, it will look even more impressive!
She looks just incredible. I never understood how this could be created by human hands. Although I am subscribed to a person on Instagram who makes all sorts of horror and rocker hats and I saw the whole process of work. This is really hard to do. Great job!

I didn't buy the 120G FEPSA beaver from Tim.

I have been looking for different shades of brown, mainly looking for Sable color in beaver.
I know that Tim carries the brownsugar, & I have a couple buckskin color, a silver belly, 2 dark navy blue, all are FEPSA Rabbit.

Hello Fedora Fans,

I just finished another flat brim hat, the brim is 3" wide and a small pencil curl made by hand, this curl is close to a 3/8". This is a 100% beaver in a Bone color, the hat band is 1 1/2" sable color vintage grosgrain ribbon straight edge, the open crown was 5.5", after putting in a single crease the crown sides are 5 3/8" tall, the front of the crown has a wide pinch area and a soft dent on each side, the hight in the front crease is 4 3/8" and 4 1/8" in the back, the leather sweatband is 2" wide and is a brown color, the satin hat liner is gold paisley on the sides with a solid brown center with Busted Hats in gold.
I was thinking about leaving the brim flat, and maybe I should iron it flat again, of course I could add a little flanging to the brim and increase the pencil curl.
Here are a few photos for you to look at.

Thank you for your time, interest and any suggestions that you might have.

Darrell

I am working on a hat that I will be shipping to the UK, this will be my first international sale and also my first hat in a size 7 1/2" . All of my hats on Ebay are listed for international sales and my UK customer would have purchased the Steel Grey if it was his size, so he has ask me to make the same hat in his size. He collects hats and he said that when he found the steel grey on Ebay he read all of my customer reviews and he wanted to add the steel grey to his collection, so this hat is my project presently. I will post photos when I am finished. Hopefully I will be able to make a copy of the first steel grey.

I finished the work on the steel grey rabbit fur felt for my customer in the UK, I finished the work this evening, I have sent photos and specs for his approval. This is my first hat in size 7 1/2" and it will be my first international sale, and since the UK is 6 hours a head of my location I will have to wait for his ok, then we work on the payment and shipping. I guess that this will be a education on filling out all of the paper work for international shipping. The brim is a dimensional cut 2 7/8" front and back 2 5/8" sides, crown front height 4 5/8 back is 4 1/4" side crown heights 5 1/8". Here are a few photos of the finished hat.

Hello Fedora Fans,

Thank you all for your kind words, the color combination worked out great, I have another hat just like this hat except it is 7 1/4" hat size. I can make a few more hats in the same style, shape and color combination and in your hat size if you are interested. I would rather make hats and sell to people outside of places like Ebay or Etsy and work directly with my customers, everything works out better for my customer.
If you are interested please start a conversation P.M.

I hope everyone has a great week,
Darrell
P.S. This 7 1/2" steel grey is on the way to the UK, by way of FedEx, customers choice.

I really need to work on how I make photos of my hats, it is either me or the light that I use, the color of the Sable Color Beaver Raiders Fedora that I posted is actually a darker color, it is not a light color of brown. Maybe I am using too much light for my photos?

Hello Fedora Fans,

I just finished work on a hat for a customer, the hat is made of 160G pure beaver in Pecan color, the hat band is 1 1/2" wide chocolate brown grosgrain straight edge ribbon, the hat size is 7 1/2", the brim is a dimensional cut, 2 7/8" wide front and back, 2 5/8" wide on the sides, the front crown pinch height is 4 5/8" and 4 1/4" high in the back, the sides of the crown are 5" high, the leather sweatband is chestnut color 2" wide with a white bow, a white satin hat liner with gold piping and Busted Hats. I sign the back side of the leather sweatband with the date, my name, Busted Hats, hat size and the # of the Indy style hat.
I need to get better lighting for inside photos, the diode lights that I use in the room do not show the real color, in fact this hat looked like a Khaki color with the inside photos, the weather isn't great today, but I made photos out side.
Here are the photos for you to view.

Thank you for your time and interest,
Darrell

Hi Fedora Fans,

I recently finished a hat for a customer; this is a Millinery Warehouse Western Weight Beaver

  • 100% pure Beaver 230G weight, the color is Steel, a blue grey color
  • The hat band and brim binding are Vintage Black Grosgrain Ribbon.
  • The crown height at the front pinch is 4 ¼”
  • The back crown height is 3 7/8”
  • The brim width before brim binding was sewn onto the brim was 2 3/8”
  • The hat band is 1” wide Vintage Grosgrain Ribbon
  • The hat band bow is 5” long.
  • The leather sweatband is 2” wide chocolate brown
  • The satin liner is dark blue with gold piping.
  • My customer requested a combination of a telescope crown and a diamond shaped crown
  • The front Crease is about 1” wide and the side dents in the front are creased back to the middle of the crown
  • Center back crown crease is 3 7/8” tall and the top crown creases for the diamond shape are 4”Long
  • The height of both 4" long creases gradually increasing to 4” with a gradual increase to 4 1/2" above side dents
  • The brim has a slight curve up in the back
  • While the front of the brim is turned down slightly.
  • All sewing was by hand and the 100% pure beaver is a tough felt to stick a needle through.
Making this hat took a little while to complete.

I need to work on making better photos of my hat work, selecting level ground, better surroundings and a different hat display stand might work for me?

My customer received his new hat today and he is very happy with the way that the steel grey fedora turned out, it was what he was hoping for, a combination of telescope and diamond shaped crown, with a gradual downward slope to the back. 230G weight 100% pure beaver is a tuff felt to stick a needle through and all sewing was done by hand.

I am in the process of making a new hat for a customer, the fedora is a dark grey Pan Am Clipper ship Indiana Jones Raiders style fedora, hat size 7 1/4", chocolate color leather sweatband, white satin hat liner and vintage 1 1/2" wide black grosgrain hat band, the brim will have the dimensional brim cut.

I need to find out if he wants the Herbert Johnson style hat band bow.

My customer contacted me on Ebay where I have 3 hats listed for sale and ask me to make this hat, working through Ebay can be a bit of a problem.

Hello Fedora Fans,

I am still around, I have 1 fedora listed for sale on Ebay, a Steel Grey in hat size 7 1/4 and I am working on a FEPSA Sable color Indy Fedora in 100% Rabbit a little at a time, and the reason for working on it a little at a time is because of this big problem.

My wife and I started a project back in June right after I had a little procedure to replace my Pacemaker Defibrillator, the old unit battery was on the verge of stopping due to a loss of power.
Anyway out home project was started to remodel and or rebuild parts of our old farm house, we decided to put in a walk in shower with sliding doors, that required reinforcing the floor joist and the wall frame work in the bathroom, that operation went into a full remodeling job, we are also remodeling a spare bedroom, we are still working on the house.
Today we were going to install the sides and back of the shower, that is when we discovered that the shower walls were damaged in transit, looks like a Dreamline-Z shower kit is a nightmare, so I am playing 30 questions and answers with the company that made the shower kit, even though we purchased it through Home Depot.

Hopefully we will get this project done by November, not real sure since we have the shower problem.

However since we will be waiting on a replacement shower kit, maybe I can finish the Indy Fedora, we will see.
I have plenty of fur felts in my stock and I want to get back to making hats, soon.

I hope that everyone is doing great,
Darrell

Well the good news is the company that is sending out the replacement shower kit is moving fast, delivery is set for Tuesday the 7th.
The bad news is the weather prediction calls for 85% chance of rain on Tuesday, the delivery might take place during a down pour. my wife said that the rain is good, we need it, I told her yes we do, but not on Tuesday.
So I hope for zero rain on Tuesday, after delivery it can rain all week, but a down pour during a delivery like that will be a big problem.
