...One advantage some smart people there in California should be doing, is getting out the good ol' metal detectors...I would be up wanding the mudslide areas....BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ the detector would go off and you'd be finding all those rolex watches that have been washed out of homes from all the mud slides.
Riiiiiiiight. Ask anyone who has ever owned a metal detector. They'll tell you for every "Rolex" you find, you'll first find hundreds of old beer cans, pull tabs, coins, nails, or any other form of discarded metal items that are for all intents and purposes worthless.

Isn't there a spray-repellent against those darn creatures?!

Yes, yes there is:

geez...I thought the better ones could be "tuned" to not pick up just junky items.....are you sure there is no setting on it? You know...."Rolex (three clicks to the right) Diamond Ring (one click to the left) buried Mother-in-Law (unplug and go home).......lol!

I don't really know. I've never owned one myself, and I've only spoken with three or four people who did--the "amateur treasure hunter" types who probably couldn't spring for the super-duper, high-end, deluxe, military grade, first-class, unsurpassed, top-of-the-line version with the micro-fine adjustment settings, luxury seats, and cup holders.

They have detectors now that can differentiate between ferrous and non-ferrous metals----they can tell the difference between iron, steel, gold, copper etc. Go buy one----with cupholders.
