Yeah but he doesn't know how lucky he is. Complaining about good weather.
It's truly a case of "too much of a good thing". All of that "good" weather, which created the drought we're in, left the chaparral on the hillsides dried out. Then "fire season" came along (yes, we have that here) and much of that chaparral burned away, leaving nothing to hold the hillsides in place when we finally got some rain. Which we did yesterday, resulting in numerous mudslides. And a bigger storm is going to hit tomorrow, which means more mudslides...it's just one big domino effect.

As long as you are out of way of the fire and mud, sounds swell. ;)

Yep...my Husband went to high school in Glendora...the news for that city with the flooding is not good and mudslides are horrible.

And on an update on the MICE here...I think they are beyond professional....When I first go out in the Garage you can hear them scatter in between boxes.....nothing in any traps yet. Bait gone. So I sit and do not move for an hour and 20 minutes...and nothing. NO movement from them at all. I had my revolver ready to go with the shot loads and no mice any where poking out for me to see. I could almost feel their little eyes keeping a watch on me though....tomorrow evening I am going to pick up the traps and out goes my Cat into the Garage. I will not feed her so she may be a bit more frisky to get them.....if she does not have success I am going to close all the doors tight and seal them off AFTER I start my lawn mower....let it run for a while to gas them out with exhaust fumes....if they are still alive after all that...hell...I will give them a party!

You get the award for the most creative line of attack against mice I have ever encountered. Traps, guns, cats, afixiation. I almost pity the things. ;)

Almost. :)

If your cat is a good mouser she may take a couple of days to make a dent. But if they sense she's staying they might give up.

I've already had it with winter. And the damned mice in the Garage! They have been trained. Professional. I am positive about that. I purchased 12 normal traps....8 big heavy glue traps. Those traps have been placed all around in the Garage. I set them up with peanut butter and on the glue traps I even added a sugar cube. That was two days ago. I check the traps. I see no mice in any trap....but all the bait is GONE! I told you these mice are professionals. So now, I have to get down and mean and nasty with them. I'll have to be careful where I may have to aim my revolver, but I have a 45 long that has some "shot loads" for it. I'll just have to go out and sit long enough to see where those little rascals are hiding and then it is on! To the death!

You need to read the children's book, The King, the Mice and the Cheese!

We're well out of the way...for now, anyway. Last week the meteorologist on a local news station said Californians will have to get used to seeing brown instead of green if drought conditions continue the way they are because we (the state) have about one year of water left, and after that there will likely be severe restrictions on water usage (i.e., no lawn/garden/landscape watering, no car washing, and so on).

A word to the wise: If you've used any rat poison, DO NOT let your cat catch those mice. Rat poison works by preventing the rodents' blood from clotting, so they bleed to death. So if your cat eats a mouse or rat that has already ingested rat poison, that poison will get into your cat's system and do the same thing; it doesn't take much.

Sounds like California needs to step up with the desalinization plants up and down the coast and start pulling water from the Pacific. It would be a win-win situation for the whole world, what with rising ocean levels due to global warming and all, you guys could probably really help keep that in check.

Yeah right. The hippie morons that run this place won't let desalinization plants be built.

Why we are even worrying about a drought in CA in the 21st century, with ocean water desalinization being a very real solution, makes me think we dropped the ball. Someone who is willing to invest heavily in it could cash in big time. It could be the new oil!

Have you looked into what it takes to get one of those plants up and running here? It is a HUGE undertaking and the cost is HIGH.

1 billion dollars!? 14 legal challenges, 15 years?! Yeah in about 100 years we might have 5 more for the WHOLE state and then it would cost 5 billion each. Morons!

Only speculating, but if serious effort and research went into it decades beforehand, perhaps they'd have it figured out and cheaper by now. Perhaps they've been at it this whole time. I really don't know.

They have been at it the whole time. Places like Saudi Arabia get the bulk of their water from this process. If state officials used their pea brains then they could do stuff like this:

Instead of building a choo choo train to nowhere......

Boil it.....(the water)....we have a water treatment kit that can make clean water by a series of filters and it works on gravity. It will even work with "sewer" water...(yuck I know) but it is fairly nice. Stainless steel and ceramic. Makes 30 gallons of water in 18 hours if you cycle it all the time. Why they do not just design something like that only HUGH I do not see why it would not work? Also what would be so hard to make HUGH boilers and just distill the salt water? They could double those up...make fresh water on one bank/row. and then moon shine on the other. I have a name already for marketing both.....the water could be called "Malibu Blue" and the moonshine could be called, "Laguna Sizzle Stick"....but then if they make it up near the Golden Gate area, they could simply call it, "Lavender Lightning"....

One advantage some smart people there in California should be doing, is getting out the good ol' metal detectors...I would be up wanding the mudslide areas....BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ the detector would go off and you'd be finding all those rolex watches that have been washed out of homes from all the mud slides.

Yes you are right....I did not let the cat out there...it is cold only 20 degrees so no cat out in the garage. BUT I did let my lawn mower run for about 45 minutes at idle. Fumes should have killed anything that was living out there. I'll wait to see if I can find any of those pesty little rascals all curled up in the death position...toes up! Have a giant shop vac.....could make it a lot easier to clean them up...you know "zonk" them right into the vac and then dump it out into a lawn bag. Daniel said we could have gotten rid of them had we thought about this before....we should have put a big sign on the back of the Garage door for them to see...."Free Cheese next door" with a arrow pointing at the neighbors house.

Isn't there a spray-repellent against those darn creatures?!
